I always enjoy my stays there and the rate was incredible. The dryers were both broken but i was able to use the laundry room at their sister hotel right next door.

Well situated for the top end of town. Good size and very clean rooms.
Staff were great, nothing was too hard for them, they just kept smiling.
We will definitely be back and highly recommend. 😀

The toilet could only be flushed about every 15-20 minutes at sometimes longer wait times apparently due to the low pressure to the property. Air Conditioning does now work, TV didn’t work. When I complained to reception I was pretty much told the place is falling down and it’s very unlikely the TV or aircon would ever be fixed as there’s too many things wrong with the property to ever get around to those tasks. We have stayed before and will likely stay again however work would be done to expedite some of the issues and having worked in a hotel before it’s not difficult to keep up maintenance.

Room was quite tired but relative to price. Light bulbs exposed as light fitting missing behind the bed. Rubbbish on floor next to the bed. 4 bottles of body wash on wall in bathroom but all empty. Sink could not be filled. Only 1 coffee cup although room was booked for 2 guests. Front desk was not interested in feedback.

The photos of the “Superior room with city view” was in fact a a room facing a car park. The rooms do not have access to air conditioning as they have removed the controls. The room was not well cleaned.. as the carpet was dirty and glasses and cups not cleaned.

Checkin was terrible! Despite having prepaid 2 nights and had stayed there on 2 previous occasions I was asked for photo ID. AS I wasnt driving and naturally didnt have my passport as I am a Kiwi travelling in NZ That wasnt possible. Despite arguing my case they were not going to allow me to stay. I have NEVER been asked this in the past at any NZ accomodation and certainly never been refused a stay. After much searching I luckily found a photo on my phone from 2 years ago of my passport which they finally accepted as ID. Interestingly 2 days later I was staying at an hotel in Wellington for a night and was NOT required to produce photo ID
This is unacceptable and I will NEVER stay at Ascotia again

Would have been nice to have teabags for morning cuppa - green tea is an odd acquired choice - was a nice quiet hotel - lovely place to stay though
