Wild Kea Lodge Franz Josef

Warm and cozy, walls are a little thin we unfortunately had neighbors "pillow fighting" next door all night but otherwise good showers and comfy beds

This should be the best accommodation i stayed in NZ over the past 3 weeks. Decors are great, they provide muffin, veg soup, coffee bean machines and even popcorn. Netflix on tv to keep me entertained while having my meal and a hot tub to relax after many days of continuous walks and hiking.

It's really comfortable and friendly. The kitchen and spa are nice and they provide umbrellas. That's really useful.

Way better than expected. We had a comfortable and enjoyable stay - thank you Wild Kea Lodge.

The staff were friendly and very helpful in getting our luggage up to our family room. We appreciated the lovely extras - muffins on arrival, popcorn and marshmallows, and homemade soup in the communal kitchen.

Location

We arrived & it was raining. The young lady explained everything & showed us our room & it was on the 3rd floor. So she helped us take our bags upstairs & then gave us complimentary muffins which were warm & delicious after our 5 hour road trip. The room was warm & cosy & very clean & comfortable with a terrific view. Would highly recommend.

The stand-out place we stayed on our travels - brilliant staff, lovely room, great facilities, beautifully decorated... but it was the little things like fresh muffins and water bottles when we arrived and help getting our luggage up to the top floor that really made the difference. Highly recommended!

This was a hostel type hotel with private rooms available with on suite. close to the town (5 minutes walk) the room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. Air conditioning was available and good. Bath room was a bit small but the shower was really good and hot water plentiful. The views from the property were breathtaking especially the snow-capped mountains all around.

Great location, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The onsite amenities in the shared kitchen were very nice. The rooms were a bit noisy but got quiet after 9 pm and the sinks are super tiny, otherwise it was a great choice for our two nights in the area.

THIS PLACE IS EPIC!! Excellent! 100 stars. Stay HERE! Go HERE! Choose HERE! Omgosh where to start. ….. first of all the staff were LOVELY, so welcoming and warm and kind. And- get this- Free home made muffins handed to us upon check in!!!! They were delicious. Next, we were shown to our room, small, but very clean and cute. We did two twin beds and bathroom across hall. Bathroom was shiny and clean with hair dryer, straightener, shampoo and body wash. Towels- crisp white. So nice. It gets better… there is a shared kitchen and living / dining area. The night we arrived there was complimentary veggie soup! The kitchen is so clean - and has everything : three stoves, all the pots, pans and dishes one could dream of. There was a microwave, air frier( yes!! For real!) , I think I even saw a crepe maker 😆. The coffee was to die for. They had a cappuccino machine, but it used fresh ( real) milk, not this fake stuff. It made any kind of coffee one could imagine- all free! It was so lovely to come down early in the morning and enjoy a really good coffee in the clean quiet welcoming place. I would encourage anyone heading to the Fox Glacier or Franz Josef area to stay here. There was even a little BBQ area and a little weight area, with some machines and feee weights. It was lovely!!!!! We were thrilled ! Thank you!!!

Great location, very walkable, helpful folks! The only problem was the broken drain in our shower and an AC would have been nice. Thank you!

The Thai lady staff (Khun Tuk) at the front desk is super helpful and friendly. Yes, of course I’m Thai so I felt warm welcome right away. The property is cozy, although the room size is a bit small but equipped with everything you want plus TV with streaming. Free popcorn and marshmallow in the canteen!! That’s very thoughtful. Love the place and only 5 min drive to glacier!!

Wild Kea Lodge was perfect for our 2 night stay in Franz Josef. Our comfort room was a good base for exploring the area. The communal kitchen and dining area was really handy. The lodge is in the centre of the township so really convenient for amenities.
