Excellent dog friendly accommodation. Suited our needs. Clean and comfortable. Could do with a new stair carpet but I think the owners are in the process of upgrading. Would highly recommend

I’ve stayed here several times, it’s a clean, safe and comfortable guest house. I was on the top floor which gives you great views over the cobbled streets but it’s 60 steps so you don’t want to forget anything and have to go back down again. Nice facilities in the room, fridge, microwave, plenty of tea and coffee. I’m already booked for a months time from now.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Central Guest House. Instructions for entry were provided beforehand via text message. The front door sticks but luckily another guest arrived who knew how to get in and showed us the trick. It's in a great spot in the town, prefect for all the restaurants, takeaways and pubs. The interior of the building is tidy if a little shabby. We weren't entirely certain which room was ours but we eventually realised we could just pick whichever room we wanted from the keys available on the table, so we stayed in room 1. The only real problem we had was that the laminated sheet with the wifi password was nowhere to be found. However, my husband contacted the owner on the second day, and that was resolved without issue. Don't expect luxury. The beds are not the most comfortable but they're clean and do the job. The rooms are all a decent size. Sofa's are very comfy. The kitchen has all the basics you need although given it's self catering and we had takeaways too, we could have done with extra bin bags and a proper dish towel. The fire in the sitting room was needed as the draughts from the windows were pretty bad, but the heaters were quick and effective. Bathroom is lovely. Plenty of storage and a TV if you want it though we didn't use it. Two bakeries, one either side of the entrance door, and both fabulous. Gregg's across the road. Breakfast times were a joy! Loved doing the Kelso Town Trail and watching the Kelsae Laddie being announced.

It was okay the room but needing some upgrades to the lock on our bedroom and the main door as both were faulty. Also the room was tired and worn needing some refreshment in decor. The town is excellent and the location is great for the guesthouse. Also we prefer face to face welcome, don’t like just turning up and getting self-service.

Premises was closed on arrival, no one around to help, locked and no access - tried ringing but the number didn’t work - had to book alternative hotel 10 miles away

Great location, clean and comfortable room, but only after booking room did I find out that the hotel is not staffed and I would have to call to get an entry code, which required borrowing a bartender's phone to make the call, since I didn't have phone service in Scotland. All this happened very late in the day on a Sunday, where a missed call could have meant nowhere to stay in a small town. They need to change the procedure or give fair warning through Expedia before booking.

If you going to be staying on a Saturday just be prepared that in the early hours of Sunday it gets noisy with people. There was people talking loudly and shouting. Not a great night sleep

Really nice apartment in a great location to the square. Close by to the bars, cafes, restaurants and also not far from the Castle and main roads to get into Kelso. Check in was easy as the owner sent us details of how to get in and everything was very straight forward. Rooms were comfy, well decorated and it was a fantastic space overall. Genuinely felt really cosy and at home as soon as we entered, and it was especially great to have so much storage space including a walk in wardrobe. However, we were disappointed that when we arrived we noticed straight away there were no toiletries in the room, not even any toilet paper. We booked via Hotels.com and it definitely stated these items would be provided so we didn't think to bring any. Thankfully there is a local Boots and Coop nearby so we grabbed some basics but would have been helpful to know this upfront. The other things that brought down our rating was the cleanliness of the place including dust and animal hair. Not sure the carpets and floors had been recently hoovered or mopped as there was animal fur everywhere. It completely covered our socks and trousers. On the other hand, sheets and towels were clean and ready to use. We also had one night when the ceiling started leaking. This wasn't heavy but something that needs looked at. The fridge also leaked which meant some of our food got ruined too. Overall, definitely recommend this place but I think there's a few things that need to be looked at!

No-One to check you in! Text number on door, no reply! Super Cental Location. Room is basic and comfortable, much smalker than pictures. Could do with a deep clean in bathroom! Not suitable for anyone elderly, disabled etc as lengthy spiral staircase with too many stairs. No Lift! Was not made aware of this!

Nice little village. Hotel very central to most amenities. Problem was the suite we were in. Looked like it was a botch job until they get round to refurbishment Bedroom clean and comfortable. Wouldn't want to use bath or shower as black mould marks on plaster tape around bath and shower curtain not up to scratching. Complained to whoever l spoke to person listed on paperwork. He was Very rude. Told me if l didn't like the room, to leave keys on table and go stay somewhere else. Taking into account this was 9pm on August Bank Holiday, we had been driving for 6 hours and l am disabled. He couldn't care less if he tried. 5 minutes later the owner came to see us. He said he understood our situation that the oven was a 'metal grease hole'. The kitchen worktops were sticky and unhygienic and the place did not live up to its rating. Owner agreed with what we stated and apologised. That however still left us paying good money for inferior accommodation.

The entry to this property is via a spiral staircase. We were on the third floor which was totally inappropriate for us as we are in our 60s. The surroundings were very noisy from adjacent pubs and morning delivery vans. Room was very small and nothing like the pictures shown online. Plenty coffee, etc and a small fridge but all very cramped. Would i stay again. No
