What Guests Say About Their Stay

We stayed at The Glasshouse (Glenlivet Suite) with our toddler from July 17–22. The hotel’s location is excellent—close to Edinburgh’s major sights but still peaceful, and the rooftop garden was a beautiful place to relax. Several staff really made our stay: Conall at the bar was outstanding with whisky knowledge and hospitality. Sam was kind and attentive, and a lovely staff member at breakfast gave great advice for a toddler-friendly park (Princes Street Gardens) and warmly engaged with our son. The room was well-appointed with thoughtful touches like whisky and chocolate, and the nearby car park with a 50% hotel discount was a plus. However, a few areas missed the mark for a five-star hotel. Housekeeping was inconsistent (we had to ask repeatedly for basic things like towels and trash pickup), turndown service was minimal, and room service was slow and underwhelming. Breakfast, while served with warmth, was overpriced for the quality. The bar could also benefit from light food options. We appreciated the thoughtful staff and setting—but consistency in service would go a long way in delivering the luxury experience The Glasshouse aims to provide.

Great location . Staff were amazing . Room was ok expected better . Shower tray leaked onto floor in bathroom pillows provided were too soft although we did not mention this I’m sure they would have sorted this. Duvet was a bit thin for time of year. The layout is odd.. you enter on the ground floor… then take a lift to the third floor… then walk a long ways to a set of stairs and go down tone or two flights to your room. Later we learned there is a service elevator that one can use.

The hotel is in a very convenient and central location. The hotel is unique in its own ways and as it was built over a historic site. Rooms are big and comfortable where mini-bar is all provided for. The interesting part of the hotel is that to get to certain parts of the hotel rooms (in my case which is on floor 1), you have to go to 3rd floor, walk across a long walkway of rooms before reaching a bar area in order to head down another 2 floors to get to my room. Kinda of inconvenient especially when you have big luggages to drag along. Saving grace was the hotel staff were all vert kind and during the check-in, the staff actually helped to move my luggage as he showed me the places.

Before we were told about the hotel we were charged £95 of ‘incidentals’ the minute we walked in the door. Room very difficult to find (life up to get a lift back down). Not well sign posted st all and we got in and out the lift 3 times to find reception and leave. No plug at side of bed for charging phone. No bath in room as per autograph room description. Room not suitable for small children in an emergency to get out quickly. My soon has mobility issues and the bell boy had to give me the case and he carried him instead.

Great location, great friendly staff, convenient route to parking garage (once we figured out which elevator to use after being jet lagged). Room was very clean, had a great view of Calton Hill, wish it was warmer to sit out in the garden (not so much in January) but overall very pleased with hotel. One minor issue with the towel heater not working.

For a 5 star it sure is lacking a lot of the usual amenities. Didn't seem like anything was actually in the building itself, and the surfaces have seen better days. Everywhere you look there's paint chipping and carpet coming up. Pool was in the mall next door? It was our first time in Edinburgh, so we didn't have time to check but last thing I want to do is wander OUTSIDE and AROUND in my bathing suit and coverup to what seems to be a public pool. Bed wasn't very comfortable. Breakfast was not included and we couldn't get any sort of breakfast cocktail until noon. Also they charged us over $500 for laundry services when we clearly stated "no drying cleaning, regular drum washer/dryer services" for 23 pairs of socks among other necessities when you're traveling to 5 countries in 3 weeks. After having previous good experiences with using the laundry services in other hotels, I would highly suggest otherwise in Marriott branded hotels as they see nothing wrong with the exorbitant charges. They're not trying to make it easier for travelers, they're trying to make money. I would not stay here again. It is not worth the money.

We only have one complaint with our stay. Other than that, all else was fine! We stayed the nights of 8th and 9th of November, in room 96. On the morning of Saturday 8th of November, my wife and went sightseeing and we returned later in the afternoon to find my headphones missing. They were brand new Apple Air Pods2 costing $220. They were missing from my laptop bag; someone had to open and sift through it to find them. In addition, someone had gone through my wife’s belongings too (lucky nothing was missing). We immediately reported the theft to the hotel duty manager. I was able to track the headphones and provided the various addresses to the duty manager (with real-time tracking). On the night of the 8th, they travelled from Edinburgh to approx. 45 miles away. Apparently, the hotel management investigated and could not determine if the staff had taken the headphones. Regardless, after we left only the housekeeper, and supervisor had entered our room. We know we didn’t lose them, and frankly, it was stolen from our room. We have reported the matter to Police Scotland. We will not be staying at another Marriot Bonvoy hotel, we expected a nice stay in our short trip, only to be ruined by this theft. In addition, we were not comped anything. I will be sure to spread the word that your organization hires criminals and thieves!!
