Hotel Engelberg das Trail Hotel

Cute, clean hotel. Owners Nadia and Thomas are incredibly warm and hospitable. Located on the main shopping street in Engelberg. Easy walk to the train station and ski lift. Also very accessible bus service to the lifts.

I had a great and very relaxing time.

Wonderful family-run hotel on the main street of the village, friendly, unpretentious, clean and well kept. Fairly quiet when I visited in July.

Amazing hotel

The view is outstanding. The food, both for breakfast and for dining was excellent. However, the wifi was down for the entire 4 nights that I stayed there. I went to the Visitor Center for free wifi. They were waiting for parts where an electrical storm knocked it out. The staff was not friendly and welcoming. If I had a question I was always treated like I was inconveniencing them where everything I asked or did was wrong and my fault. So I just stayed away from the people that worked there and it was fine. The morning breakfast woman was fantastic.

Everyone who works there was friendly and helpful. A short walk from the train station and we even walked to the Titlis lift (even though a shuttle runs to it).

Great! Exactly what I wanted!

The Pros: We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, we went for a family vacation, and fell in love with the surroundings of the hotel, which is perfectly nestled at the base of the mountains with shops and restaurants all around and everything is at a walking distance. The owner has had this hotel in his family for 3 generations and are very knowledgeable about all the shops, food and tours in the area; and they are incredibly nice and helpful. We had a 3 bed room, it was very spacious and had a nice bathroom with amazing water pressure! Beds are very comfortable and when you open up your window the views are simply breathtaking. Cons: The hotel is a little tired and could definitely use a facelift, with creaking floorboards, narrow, dark hallways and a front desk which is not 24 hours. The breakfast which was included with our stay is very basic and limited. But all that can be put aside, the main downer was the lack of ventilation in the room; you can open a window but the restaurant at the bottom of the hotel has outdoor seating where people can smoke freely and all of that second hand smoke comes into the hotel room, and so you're stuck with your windows closed, with no A/C controls, no fans and no air flow. It should also be noted residents and tourists that we encountered throughout our stay are very heavy smokers, thus this was an ongoing problem. Overall: We enjoyed our time there, would go again, and would recommend!

Morning & evening views from my comfortable room were superb, a great way to psych up or wind down from the day's mountain excursion. Location is on a bricked street with a village feel in the heart of the town, surrounded by shops and good restaurants. From this central location near the historic cloister, you're a few minutes walk from bus stops for the free shuttle to Titlis, Brunni, or Fuhrenalp cable car stations. About 10 min to main train station (around 2 hrs to Zurich). Hotel rooms very comfortable and clean, breakfasts in a large dining room are good. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable for recommendations about local trails & activities.

Staff is really helpful and attentive, the room was perfectly clean, bed was comfortable. Just think that the price was too high.
