The bed is excellent, and has a fleece blanket instead of the ubiquitous down comforter. Very quiet. We safely took a walk at 11pm. Have Stayed here many times and will continue to do so when we are in Portland.

I like the amenities for the price. I think the management works hard to make your stay comfortable in a clean space. I like the mini fridge and microwave as an added convenience

We stayed at the Viking Motel for 1 night in the Labour Day long weekend and were impressed by its cleanliness and spaciousness. We travelled by motor bike so at first we weren’t sure about having the bike parked out front but upon arrival and our stay we felt confident it was safe.

Room smelled of cigarette smoke. It is an old motel so may just be stuck in the walls and ceiling. Was hoping to take a bath but there was no drain plug.

The Viking is one of the 1950s-era motels that are common on Interstate Avenue, from the days when it was one of the main arterials for visitors to Portland from the north. It has been renovated and well-maintained, though, and is a good choice for people looking for reasonably-priced accommodation in north Portland. It is very close to a light rail stop, and also to bike lanes and bicycle-friendly streets.

The property appears to be poorly managed. Despite following the manager’s instructions and placing the “Maid Service Required” sign, the service provided was minimal—only trash removal and towel replacement. Typically, a full room cleaning and bed-making are expected. Additionally, the air conditioning was not functioning properly. It produced a loud noise throughout the night, making it difficult to sleep. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property.

The staff were absolutely wonderful and I provided a nice room for my disabled daughter and I on the first floor. The second day my key was not working and the manager actually noticed that it wasn’t working and by the time I turned around to get a new key, he had already met me in the parking lot with a new one! I have never had such great service! Room 101 was the best, it had a full kitchen, a table that had four chairs, four windows on three walls. The kitchen was stocked with every pot, pan, and utensil one could possibly want. It was a bit retro with plywood cupboards, but we don’t mind that kind of thing. The beds were very comfortable and had beautiful headboards. The sleeping area was carpeted, which was nice for doing morning stretches. The bathtub was comfortable and had a nice working plug. The hotel is on the light rail, but it was quiet day and night. Within four blocks walk, there was a Fred Meyer and multiple eating establishments. We felt very safe walking in the neighborhood during the day.

Let's be serious here, we are reviewing an independently run motel and not the Ritz. Viking Motel is a fine stay if you are on business travel or need a short overnight stay. It is not a vacation property. The staff are great. The room adequate and very very clean. The location can be dicey in parts but this is Portland - Keep it Weird. Local food options amazing. A few upgrades would be nice like modern air conditioners and showers - not tub shower version. All in all I'd stay again.

We stayed here based on price but for 30 bucks more we could have had a much nicer hotel with more amenities. The property looked nicer in the photos than it actually was. Furniture and fixtures looked old and some of it broken. The room had a musty smell and was next to a busy street. There are some good eateries nearby and we walked to Peninsula Park which had a nice playground and rose garden but noticed many homes had bars on the windows. Wouldn't stay here again.

Our room was modest but very clean and well-kept up for an older building. Not very noisy. Limited access to staff but they were friendly. Parking available but not guaranteed. The area felt a bit seedy and you have to ring a buzzer to get into the locked lobby area. Overall pleased and will stay here again.
