What Guests Say About Their Stay

John

The Casablanca Hotel has a very collegial staff who take a lot of pride in the property. The hotel has a dining area with a microwave and an electric kettle that makes breakfast easy, and a spot where you can make a cup of coffee when you want. I was especially impressed with the housekeeping staff. Everyone spoke to this 73 old solo traveler and made me feel welcome. This is a quiet hotel in the middle of everything like fruit vendors, bakeries, and walks to La Rambla de Montevideo, and the Plaza de Independencia. I even was able to take the public bus back and forth to the airport. The Casablanca will be a favorite memory. John from Albuquerque.

This hotel served as an excellent base for me to tour around Uruguay. Centrally located, helpful staff, everything worked well, etc. It's a simple hotel in the center -- nothing fancy but made for a very comfortable stay (including WiFi, AC, fridge in room, etc.). Plenty of restaurants nearby, within walking distance of the historic part of the city, shopping, etc. Definitely a good value for the money and I'd definitely stay here again when in Montevideo.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 days during my first trip to Uruguay! It's in an excellent location with good proximity to the main shopping and tourist areas! There are good restaurants and cafes nearby and the same goes for buses! The hotel staff were super helpful and there's a good shared kitchen area of you need to watch your spending a little! It includes a microwave and toaster and tea and coffee! I most liked the helpfulness of the staff! The one small thing was that our room looked over the street and could be a bit loud! By the late hours, it was quieter which was good! I highly recommend this hotel! Very affordable! Clean! I'd stay here again.

The hotel is old and the teachers in the room are old and some of them are broken. The broken things were the door knob, the toilet seat, the bathroom fan, and the condition of the room in general with cracks and peels on walls etc. They have a little they have kitchenette in the lobby where they make a pot of coffee in the morning but there's no coffee in the room. Also one morning there was no more coffee at 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. and I asked the front desk if she can make more and she said no it's too late. The walls are very thin so you can hear every sound in the lobby. One morning a group of tourists from Italy were talking in the lobby at 7:30 a.m. and it sounded like they were yelling because there was so much noise. The quiet hours of at the hotel are between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. but they didn't enforce it with the Italian group to ask please either talk lower or go outside to talk. The only reason that I don't give a lower rating is because it is a cheaper hotel at $44 per night so you expect some things to be lower quality but this was even below the level of the hotel.

I open the door at 5 in the morning, and confronted with flights of stairs and no lift, lugged my 22kg suitcase. To find that there is NO possibility of early check-in, despite there being several empty rooms. Entire staff consists of one teenage boy, argued with him for an hour to no avail. Instead of sleeping in a room (pre-paid! for 4 days!) after 22 hour flight, was asked to sit on a chair! for 4 hours. Finally, elderly woman (his mother? apparently -- owner of hotel) shows up. Deigns to give me a room. The room has NO window, and is lit by single 40watt bulb. The pillows -- apparently stuffed with STRAW. In the bathroom, the faucet pressure is such that it takes 40 seconds to fill a glass with water. The shower -- similar. Toilet, when flushed, fills the floor with water. A single half-sized roll of toilet paper was provided; it dissolves on the merest contact with the faucet splash and falls to the floor in pieces. Went to the old woman, she (reluctantly, with grumbling) brought 2 more IDENTICAL half-sized rolls of this same "paper". The shampoo pouch in the shower was near-indestructible, you cannot open it without scissors no matter what you do to it. Could describe other "features" of this hotel, but will omit, they are not fit to print. Avoid at any cost. The people who gave these dirtbags positive reviews, are likely paid shills.

Room is extremely stuffy with no Windows. Super bad air quality. Pricy room with no breakfast. Bed is quite hard and cold . Heater doesn't work. No help is given to carry my luggage up the stairs. Location is good. Central to key tourist spots. I would stay in a hostel with breakfast for lesser price and value. Not good value for Money.

Hotel Casablanca is well located for visits to most of the attractions in central Montevideo, with friendly and helpful staff. I was fortunate that at checkin a member of the family spoke English and explained various things, including the locations of some of the local attractions. Most of the staff only speak Spanish. For me the only downside is the lack of breakfast, but there are many cafes and restaurants within a few blocks.
