More about hotels in Chimanimani
Choosing accommodation in Chimanimani
For a stay in Zimbabwe's Eastern Highlands, distinguish a Chimanimani village lodge from overnight accommodation in the mountains. A village room gives you a place to return to, while a mountain hut or campsite requires a different set of supplies and arrangements. The district name on a hotel listing does not establish that it is inside Chimanimani National Park.
Stonehouse Lodge: a small lodge on Tilbury Road
Stonehouse Lodge is the property listed on this Chimanimani page, at Tilbury Road 457 in Ward 15. Its supplier description identifies four guestrooms, rather than a large resort complex. Guestrooms have WiFi and bathrooms with a bath or shower. Self-parking, a picnic area and laundry facilities make it a practical option for travellers using their own vehicle and staying for more than one night.
The lodge lists children's toys, games and a trampoline. These shared facilities may suit a family break, but they do not establish the sleeping capacity of an individual room. Connecting or adjoining rooms are requests subject to availability, rather than an assured family suite. Rollaway beds and housekeeping can carry additional charges, so compare the total for the actual party rather than treating the lodge's room count as group capacity.
Planning a stay around the mountains
Chimanimani village and the national park's mountain base camp are separate locations. For an outing into the park, allow for the onward journey from your lodge rather than relying on a nearby-park distance shown on a booking card. A room reservation does not include park admission, a guide or mountain camping equipment.
The park authority advises carrying food supplies and warm, windproof and waterproof clothing, and recommends guided mountain hikes because the routes can be strenuous. It also cautions against camping near rivers during the rainy season because of flash flooding. Staying at a lodge is a different accommodation choice from undertaking an overnight mountain trek; choose the lodging and activity arrangements separately.
