The hotel is older and it looks a little old. That being said, the staff was super nice and helpful, the location is central to everything but not near the cruise crowds, and the bed was very comfortable.

The Baranof is a beautiful old hotel at a nice location in the middle of Old Town Juneau. Given that it is a historic place, it feels a bit worn and could use a little freshening up. The service was friendly and helpful. Dining was only in the bar, but the food was good. We had a nice view from our window. The only slight problem was some very loud music from the open-air pub next door on Friday night, but they didn't go on too long.

The property is pretty old but clean, staff was helpful. Location is close to all the downtown things to see. The restaurant is terrible much better options nearby.

Very clean room, comfortable bed, great location. Restaurant only open for breakfast and the walls were paper thin.

It was getting a little tired and could do with a makeover but had plenty of good food. The room was small and the heating was not very efficient but we managed ok

The hotel is in need of a facelift. Our suite was basically clean. Key cards worked sometimes. Made to order breakfast in the restaurant were barely ok. great location near good restaurants. Walkable to the waterfront.

This hotel has done some updating in the recent years. The rooms are getting a makeover however the hallways are still dark and dated. But looks like progress is being made. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable.

The biggest drawback to staying here was that the guests have no control over the heat. When I checked in, I entered my room, and it felt like it was 95 degrees. There was a card in the room purporting to be about how to control the heat, but even if the controls are turned off, the heat continues. Or, when the hotel turns the heat off, there is no way to turn it on in the room. The bedroom window in my room did not open, so I requested and got a different room, where it was still hot, but the window opened. Before I arrived, I had called to request a rollaway bed for two nights, and the desk clerk I talked to seemed to not know what a rollaway bed was. After consulting with someone, he told me they did not have any. However, after I arrived, I spoke with a different desk clerk who DID provide me with a rollaway. A friend stayed in a different room. She was told it did not have a refrigerator, but it did. I was in Juneau for the Alaska Folk Festival, and the festival newsletter said the Baranof was offering discounted rooms. I had already made my reservation (through Expedia), but I called to see if I could get a reduced rate. First, the desk clerk denied they were offering a discount. Then, after consulting with someone, she claimed to calculate a discounted rate, but it was more than I had paid. She kept telling me I would save $$, but the amount she gave me was more. I kept asking for clarification, and she hung up on me. The view from my room was nice.

Out of all the trips I’ve made to Juneau this is by far the best place to stay downtown. Definitely worth it and definitely worth getting the breakfast add on.
