This place is lovely and perfectly located to take advantage of downtown. The lobby area has a lot of charm and people were helpful when we needed them. We especially appreciated the fast and courteous valets when we needed our car. We would absolutely stay here again. With just a little more attention to some hospitality-based areas, I’m looking forward to giving the full five stars next time. Nothing went wrong, if you don’t count the TV in the bedroom of our suite not able to connect to local channels and no directions with it to suggest the setup was different from the one in the living area, but things like complimentary champagne on check-in should be offered without guests having to point to it and ask. There’s a Model A in the lobby, but no one could tell me what it was, one saying “I’m not a car person.” Not hard to find out, as I walked to the plaque that is right by it. Just interesting omissions like that. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we loved the robes. We were a little surprised that the bathroom amenities were more modest than most other historic hotels we’ve stayed in at that price point. But again, not deal breakers at all. It has all the potential to go from good to great, and with the continuing comeback from Hurricane Helena, we expect nothing but better experiences as they get fully staffed and trained.
