Nice 2 night stay good size room, great pressure in the shower. breakfast was great quality cooked well. I didn't use the pool facilities as there was a class on when I went to use it. Parking was easy. Staff were all really nice. Would stay again.

I recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Sunderland for the first time, and while the hotel itself has a lot going for it, one member of staff completely ruined what should have been a lovely visit. The hotel rooms are genuinely impressive – spacious, clean, comfortable and well-presented. The facilities are also great, especially the pool area, which is one of the reasons we booked. Everything looked modern and well-kept, and on the surface it felt like a place you’d happily return to. Unfortunately, the staff were the complete opposite of the warm, welcoming atmosphere the hotel tries to present. In particular, the lady on shift at the pool on 1 August was shockingly rude from the moment we arrived. Every time I glanced over, she was staring at us with a disgusted look, like we were a problem just for being there. It made the whole experience uncomfortable when we were simply trying to enjoy the facilities we had paid for. When we were leaving, I genuinely didn’t know which way we were supposed to exit, so I went the same way I had gone into the changing rooms as I entered. She said something, but I didn’t hear her, so I politely asked “What?” She then turned around, pointed aggressively, and snapped “You have to go that way” with the most disgusting attitude. There was absolutely no need for her to shout or behave like that, especially when it was my first time staying and I had no idea where I was meant to go. Her behaviour was rude and unprofessional

Room was really good and very spacious! Very happy with my overall stay. Dinner was delicious and breakfast was good too.

Nice pool and area is good

Really helpful and friendly staff. We didn’t realise that it was a Britannia hotel when we booked and so we arrived expecting the worst, but we were very pleasantly surprised at quality staff and excellent room. We only had the sweet and sour chicken sent as room service but this also turned out hot and very tasty. Breakfast buffet also good. Excellent sea view as beach is only across the road. Will go again.

This hotel seemed nice, like it was posh once but quite dated now. A lot of the furniture was quite tired and there were some big cobwebs around but other than that it was very clean. The fire alarm went off at 1am and we were all outside for 40 minutes. The staff didn’t seem to know how to check everyone was accounted for and kept telling us to move to stand in different places in the car park it was quite chaotic. I understand a lot of this is not the staffs fault but it wasn’t pleasant. After the fire alarm I had no running water in my room at all for the remainder of my stay. I had to wash my face and brush my teeth in the toilets downstairs near the cafe and because none of the lifts were working it was a very long walk up and down. I had to go to the restaurant and beg them to fill up my water bottle for me because I was so thirsty and then I had to shower in the swimming pool showers changing in front of a lot of strangers. To top it all off, when I made a trip to my car with some luggage before checking out the cleaning team were in my room and stripped the bed and everything when I went back to check if I left anything before checking out the cleaning lady said “are you sure you haven’t checked out because he’s been in and opened the door up” I don’t know who she meant by he. I wasn’t properly able to check the room for my belongings before leaving and it was even 20 minutes before the latest check out time so I’m not sure why they went into my room like that.

We stay here regularly and love the suites with floor to ceiling windows with sea view. This time we were disappointed the room temperature control/air con was not working. Unsure whether this was temporarily broken or the system no longer in use? The room was stifling. There were fans but this was nowhere near enough to manage the conditions and very noisy so impossible to sleep with them on. Guest Wi-fi also didn’t work in our top floor room. Disappointed as this was a rare treat night away for us in a hotel we’ve had lots of great memories in.

Nice sized room but a long walk from reception up and down stairs. Bathroom showing obvious signs of age. Staff were all lovely and health club fun. Overall we had a good stay and will return.

Hotel is located on the seafront and has beautiful views if you get a room at the front. Staff were friendly and check in was easy. Don’t forget to put your reg in at reception if staying there. Hotel has a bar, restaurant and leisure facility and close to restaurants and shops. The rooms are spacious but are a bit outdated and need updating.
