£50 a round for 2 drinks in hotel bar. Suite was old, musty and dark. Service nowhere near as good as you’d expect for the price point. Incredibly disappointing.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with the hotel. It has a fantastic location with wonderful views but feels rundown and in need of some renovation. Before you even enter the hotel you realise things are not quite right as there's a letter missing from the sign and the associated wall is filthy. When we got to our room we found that the edges of the curtains were so frayed that bits fell off as you close them. The battery cover for the safe was missing, the cover for the temperature control for the shower was missing and the extractor fan was disgusting. The AC wasn't great, there's a continuous running noise from behind the toilet and the mattress sloped in to the centre. If you are having breakfast be aware that 50% of the hotel dishes have a £6 supplement and if you want a latte or cappuccino then that's going to be another £4 supplement. If you are going to the bar then expect to wait and don't be surprised when a medium glass of rose is more than £17. Has so much potential but need attention.

What should be an outstanding hotel in a fabulous location, is a tired, rundown, very mediocre, overpriced place to avoid. The Room (56) felt dirty and in dire need of a make over. We kept our shoes on as the carpet looked like it was ready to get up and walk off. The bar was tired and the menu came tatty and stained. The breakfast was typical fair, but all was left sitting out exposed to everything, without any care or thought for hygiene or protection. The staff were pleasant, but I don't think it unreasonable to require those serving to at shower or at least use deodorant, the smell of BO was over parring and not conjusive to a good dining experience. I am sorry to be so mean, but this hotel needs a make over, at least in Room 56 and the communal spaces. It is not worth £450 per night hey are charging

We stayed in 2021 to celebrate Covid Delayed birthday. We even extended our stay then Unfortunately the Hotel has gone downhill by our recent visit June 2026 A cheek to charge extra for alternative breakfast when paying £250 per night. Service not great at breakfast Soundproofing poor. Bins being emptied at 1am! Long queues at outdoor bar

The whole experience was disappointing with the place now lacking any of the English charm that it once had. Everything is overpriced for the lack lustre amenities. The staff are efficient but emotionless and when we asked the room servicer for more black tea for the room we were told she didn’t have any left in her loose plastic bag of long life milk and other teas and made no attempt to find any elsewhere. The balcony had half dead pot plants on it and needed a jolly good sweep and de-cobwebbing. What a sad loss it is to see it like this with that stunning location and long charming history. For £350 per night I expect better. They took excess money out of my account without explanation and wouldn’t address the issue at the time and promised to email when they they had sorted it…still waiting a week later and and approx A$800 still out of pocket. We have really experienced the frustration of returning to somewhere with wonderful memories only to be bitterly disappointed.

Amazed at how dated and poor quality at this hotel. Genuinely shocked - this needs a total refurb and new staff ….but mainly the fabric, especially the rooms, is frankly shocking.

We had a great stay at the Compleat Angler for my wife's birthday. Lovely room overlooking the river and very well looked after by the staff. Beautiful grounds and fabulous river views from the hotel. We shall return.

The hotel was lovely and in a beautiful location, right on the riverbank. We ate in Sindhu, which I highly recommend. There are no USB ports in the bedrooms, which is worth knowing in advance. Breakfast was ok, but not great and certainly not the expected level for a 4 star hotel. The coffee was horrible and I would have expected better. However, overall we had a great time.

A rare night away from the kids, we splashed out on this hotel and had high hopes. Whilst the location was second to none, I’d say the hotel inside is average. We would in a deluxe double so has river views which was incredible. Bathroom was dirty and we asked for it to be cleaned but that never happened. Breakfast was very average. Buffet style but I’d say range of food available was average. Little available for vegans, other than cooked breakfast. No alternatives for yoghurt or butters. Lovely location but overpriced hotel for what it offers.

Average, filthy bathroom taps and bath sealant were really really grotty. Location is sublime though. Very very basic all-round, corridors are narrow and a struggle with a suitcase, no offer from the reception staff to assist with luggage. Was probably lovely when it was first built.
