Location is great for us. We stayed in Room 3 in the courtyard as we had a small dog with us and they are not allowed in the Main Hotel rooms. We have stayed in this room before - its an excellent size but on the first floor. It seems to have been modernised from when we were last there which was nice. We didn't have breakfast or evening meal there as it is "hotel prices". Within walking distance of the hotel is one of the best pubs in Derbyshire - The Hollybush Inn - great beer and grub.

Stayed with my dogs, lovely walk on site, welcomed to join me in the Dining room. Very friendly staff, nice food, all round a lovely stay

We enjoyed our stay at Makeney Hall. The first night we arrived late and the couch pull out bed had no sheets or blankets. The front desk staff was very kind and went and found what we needed and we were very grateful. The room was nice size and the grounds were very beautiful.

A very clean,tidy and well run hotel.Breakfast was very enjoyable with toast,cereals, fresh fruit, teas,coffee and a great range of hot ,cooked meals available. Beds were to die for, i slept better here than in my own bed.

I stayed for one night on business. I was looking for somewhere just off the A38 and this was perfect. I was upgraded to a lovely huge room with views over the valley. Staff were incredibly warm and helpful. My meal was excellent in fact one of the best I’ve had in a while. The grounds are stunning. I wish I’d had my binoculars as the huge tree next to my room was alive with birds. I’d definitely return.

Excellent stay here for a ball. Fab room, lovely food and great service. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely hotel reception and room (couldn't stay for restaurant) Had great difficulty parking car outside Hotel before being told about larger offshoot parking behind us. Discussed to ask for walk in shower next time we book. Will definitely come again.

This is a manor-style hotel with a very British feel. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful. The room was clean, and the staff were very friendly.

Room was not serviceable. Bathroom had no heating or towel rail…extremely cold, could not dry towels, wet in the morning . Bathroom floor tiles were lose, raised in the area of the wash basin, hazardous. Heater, only one electric in the room, did not stay on in the day, we were out in day, didnt return till late, bed and room very cold. Did complain on day one, no alternative accommodation available….due to booking on line. Have requested a partial refund.

The room was a very good size and clean, with refreshments available. The lighting in the room, however, was very low and not ideal for getting ready to use the main mirror in the bedroom. The noise from the family staying in the room above was clearly heard throughout the night, each time the children ran and the adults walked across their room. The floorboards creaking was very noticeable and meant we did not get much sleep. The morning breakfast was okay, but did not offer much as vegan options, and the coffee machine was not working. The staff at reception were very helpful, polite and welcoming.
