The cooked breakfast was nice. Staff absolutely lovely except from one person in the main reception who booked us in (looked and sounded like they did not want to be there - could have been having a bad day). Clean, tidy rooms. Showers worked well.

Be aware that there is clearly a big renovation project taking place. Our room had clearly had the room done but the bathroom, although spotless, was old. Our children’s room was the opposite. The two rooms although sold at the same price were entirely different sizes and one of the rooms had obviously been split from its neighbour with a bit of cardboard the soundproofing was so poor. It’s a beautiful old building so we know it won’t be perfect. It has loads of personality, is in a fab location, is spotless throughout and the breakfast was great. It’s perfect for a night but just not convinced it is 4*.

We stayed for three nights. There was absolutely no service, no cleaning at all, and remnants of the previous guest’s trash were still in the room. My body broke out in severe hives from the very first night, which gradually worsened. Considering the price we paid, the service was extremely poor.

Property is obviously the grandest in Buxton and a great looking building and ideally placed in the centre of town. Shared areas in the hotel are fine, but the bedroom was an all too common story of ageing English hotels, with a cheap attempt at a refresh but ultimately poorly maintained and not really living up to the expectations of the price and the rest of the hotel surroundings. Some staff helpful but only the 4th member was actually able to find an extra pillow after the previous 3 saying there were none available.

Lovely old Victorian hotel in central location for Buxton. Standard rooms ok but can be a little small with small bathrooms and pretty hard beds. Food quality good but not as good as previous years. Chaos at breakfast when busy. It is either understaffed or staff poor at ensuring tables cleared and food items resupplied. Told one morning 20 mins before end of breakfast didn’t have any more tomatoes or mushrooms and had to wait for eggs and bacon. Bit disappointed this trip as standards have dropped with respect to food and service. Also the electronic keycards failed every day for three and had to keep trooping down to reception to get them reactivated. No apology from reception just matter of fact about it and that this happens no doubt all the time!

The bathroom was dirty, the toilet seat wasn't on straight. Blood on the bed sheet. Staff were not interested and unhelpful. We had to pay to park at the hotel when we arrived. We thought we would try to spa and we also had to pay for that. We asked for towels in the spa and the staff just shrugged and said there wasn't any. The changing rooms were dirty and no lockers to put valuables. The steam room was set at the temperature of the sun and the sauna wasn't on

Very pet friendly and staff were so helpful. Great location to explore Buxton and surrounding areas. £5 parking per 24 hours was very reasonable

Whilst this once nust have been a high prestige hotel to stay at, it's decay is obvious. The wind howls through the corridors and rooms permanently as the floors are uneven and the windows are wonky, creating a permanent draft. I specifically chose this place because it stated it had a gym, but upon arrival I learned that more than 60% of it was closed because of water damage, with buckets on the floor all over, an evil stink of humidity as water was dripping from the ceiling. Ridiculous they still informed me they also charge 6£ for a day pass, despite only some weights and a bike and pool/titsy tiny sauna were accessible. Why did they not inform me? I would've cancelled my booking and stay at the Leewood, which is fab and has a functioning clean gym. I'm really annoyed and tempted to ask money back. There's no room service during the stay unless one explicitly asks for it. Flaky wifi also, making it a fail for my business trip. Total disappointment! I'll discourage anyone from staying there.

Another great stay at the Palace. Easy check-in and our room was clean and for a compact room, it was spacious and light. The hotel has been going through a programme of refurbishment and it look really good and the public areas and corridors are smart and renewed. Will be back again.
