If you are looking for a stay in Manaus with a perfect view onto the Amazonas Opera House the Taj Mahal Continental Hotel is the perfect choice. The rooms are not the most modern yet spacious and with AC. The breakfast buffet offers a wide range of treats (we loved thick dark red fruits jam that was a little bitter; I think we would still love to know what it was, it was above the goiabada). The rooms were calm and we slept well. The reception desk as well as the concierge service was always friendly and helpful. Many thanks! This hotel is highly recommendable. Booking is easy via whatsapp and card payment is accepted. Enjoy!

A nice hotel in a good location. You can see it used to be very luxurious in it's high days, and although things are a little outdated and some things could use a little maintenance, this place is still an excellent hotel to spend the night if you are in Manaus.

It's like the phrase "You get what you pay for" was made for this hotel. This is Not a 5 Star Hotel. So here was my experience. You can decide for yourself. My Dad and I stayed here twice, for three nights each with a 2 night gap in the middle. We had prepaid so couldn't change it mid way. * The room doesn't come with blankets. There is literally a thin sheet on the bed. If you want a blanket you have to ask the reception and sometimes they won't have enough. * The first room we stayed in didn't have toilet paper, nor did it have a biday or water spray. I asked someone at house-keeping for toilet paper. She was standing right next to toilet paper and told me I have to go to reception to ask for it. Someone did deliver it to the room eventually. * The toilet in the 2nd room we stayed in leaked once you flushed. * After two nights in the first room, the toilet wouldn't flush anything down. * In both rooms, there is no hot water. The hot water is "not freezing water". * The entire night after taking a shower, the shower will dribble and you will hear a sound. You have to use all your might to turn the knob so that the dribbling sound is slower (still doesn't stop) * The shower is old and has inconsistent spray. * The building is old and you can tell. On the top floor where the swimming pool is, on a rainy day the ceiling was dripping water. * I wanted coffee delivered to my room one day and the room service man said that they can only do this after the restaurant opens at 6:30PM. Another time I bought coffee and they charged me the same amount for coffee as for the milk. So it's I paid double cause I wanted some milk with my coffee. I paid them ... and the man erroneously charged me 2 Reals less. He then came back to my room and made me pay the 2 Reals he mistakenly didn't charge me. 2 Reals is 34 cents by the way. Management didn't train their staff to not bother a client for 34 cents especially if the staff is the one that made the error. * The first room I stayed in had a smart tv. The 2nd room did not have a smart TV (not big deal), but it's remote didn't work. * The lobby is nice. The plants are fake. * I gave them some laundry to do and the returned one shirt less. I didn't bother trying to get it back as clearly the service lacked. * Nobody at reception spoke even a bit of English. Normally I wouldn't care. I'm in Brazil, and why should anyone speak English? But, I ran into so many people on the street trying to sell me tours that did. So it's not like people in Manaus don't speak English at all. The management of this hotel just didn't see this as important. This is a city full of tourists. This is NOT a 5 Star Hotel. Overall, it is clear that the owners and senior management of this hotel isn't present. I don't blame the staff. I blame the management and owners. They are absent and are somehow running this hotel at bare minimum costs just to keep it going somehow. The employees don't seem happy. Yes, it only cost me $60 a night but I have stayed in cheaper hotels where the basics are much better than this one. It's almost like they should down-size the hotel (maybe close off the top half of the floors) charge a bit more per room and fix all these issues. You can see the photos I'm sharing. So it's up to you if you want to stay here. Overall, we managed but would definitely not stay here again.

It is a very old hotel and almost nothing works there anymore - including some buttons in the elevators. But it's in a very attractive location and it came with an excellent price. Breakfast included, very big room, clean sheets & towels, no bugs, sometimes even a hot water in the shower - it's worth the price. Air conditioning in our room was struggling: it was on all the time and set on full cooling, but it was still a tad too warm. We only had two tiny pillows - when we asked for two more the guy at the reception promised to take care of it, but they never arrived to our room. Still, for this price, it's a great buy.
