Lovely location, close to all amenities. No air-con and quite warm at night. Overall happy with price and would book again.

Well situated in Funchal. We found it a straightforward walk into the city centre and near to the airport bus stop. Friendly and helpful staff. Small swimming pool on roof which helped cooling off after our levada walks.

I don't care much for having to leave my key at the desk every time I go out, but the staff is very nice

Lovely little hotel, very helpful and friendly. The only thing that would stop me going back in the hotter months is the lack of air conditioning - not a problem in January but it would be later in the year.

I cannot fault this hotel for the price I paid. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. I didn’t use the facilities so I can’t say much but the roof top was never shaded and the restaurant always looked busy. Check in and check out was swift and staff were nice. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, would definitely stay again.

Great price, good location right on a street with loads of pubs d restaurant, short walk to the harbour. Very loud street noise from outside. Everything is extra in hotel, €10 for the remote in room, no towel for pool but for the price it is great value.

Other callers have whinged about ants (formigha) on balcony, getting into room. Appears this is well under chemical control. Anyway ants were there before humans reached the island. Everywhere kept scrupulously clean, usual Madeira standards. My only annoyance was the proliferation of Don't Do This/That signs. Really, if someone is inclined to wipe his boots with a towel, is a stupid sign likely to alter that inclination?

This is an excellent hotel for the price offered, we were self catering, the kitchen although small afforded the basic requirements for two people. We simply prepared small breakfasts at our own leisure. Staff really friendly and nothing to much to ask. We had a sea view and the only downside was that the local council collect the bins at 10:30 pm, which happens all round the area of Funchal so the vehicles can get access, so an unavoidable moan. Highly recommend this Hotel and we will stay again if we return to the Island in the future, easy access to the harbour 3 min walk down the road and then you have the whole promenade/marina ahead of you. WiFi in all rooms at no extra cost which was a bonus

I chose this hotel for its location as I wanted to stay somewhere near the Funchal port. It satisfied that and that's about it. Even though it's inexpensive there are better options in the city of Funchal (though a bit farther from the port). The hotel and the rooms are old and unpleasant. There were nasty stains on the carpets that they tried to cover up with area rugs. The sheets and the towels seemed clean, but the overall feeling from the one-night stay I was left with was that of disgust. Avoid if you can, but not the end of the world if you have to stay here for a night.

We had a great holiday. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to suggest activities and excursions. The room was comfortable and clean, The location was great and close to numerous restaurants. If I ever come back to Funchal, Madeira, I would absolutely stay here again.

superb small hotel, ideally located 10mins walk to Funchal marina, another 10mins to the old town. A good selection of nearby restaurants and a very well stocked mini market, almost next door. Staff are very friendly and helpful, special thanks to Victor & Duerte. Lovely sun roof and pool, very peaceful. Excellent housekeeping in rooms which are equipped with kettle, microwave, two burner cooker and utensils.

This is a very nice hotel run by friendly staff. It is in the budget price range but is good value for money. It is within walking distance of the centre of Funchal and just up from the port area. The studio style apartments are well equipped, with a rooftop swimming pool. It is ideal for exploring the island and "doing your own thing".

Just back from a week at the Imperatriz (7th to 14th November) and overall found it excellent. It ticked all the boxes as regards what I wanted which was somewhere clean, comfortable, facility to make breakfast in the room, in a good location, public transit access (bus stops) nearby and reasonably priced. The rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. Bedding is basic; however, I found it comfortable and more than adequate. There’s a ‘mini kitchen’ in a cupboard consisting of a sink, kettle, large fridge, two ring cooker and most cooking implements with plates, cups, cutlery etc. (anything not there that you think you need simply ask at reception.) Everything I needed to make breakfast and more if I wanted. The location is ideal; 15 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal, there’s a Spar shop 50 metres away, another small supermarket less than two minutes walk away on Avenida do Infante. As well as Bernini’s at the front of the hotel there are numerous restaurants only a couple of minutes walk away, including Moynihan’s; an Irish Sports Bar that shows all the sport live and a casino less than 2 minutes walk away, if that’s your thing. There are two bus stops less than two minutes walk away on the Avenida do Infante, connecting you to a great public transport network. As regards the cost, I thought the Imperatriz was incredible value and I would recommend it to anyone seeking excellent budget accommodation in a great location.

Helpful staff, good value for nice room with balcony and flower bed. View is nothing special, though you can see the sea. Kitchenette was small but adequate. Small swimming pool and loungers on the roof. There are restaurants all around, a small SPAR supermarket outside and a small MEU Super supermarket a short walk away. There are lots of hotels in this area. One end of the harbour is a short walk downhill from the hotel. A short walk uphill is Avenido do Infanta where you can catch busses going east or west, and the airport bus.
