paid for early check in, but arrived to be told this hadn't been arranged. we were given free drinks to compensate this, but we still had to wait an hour before I double checked the room status as we now only had 20 minutes to get ready for a wedding. we finally got to the room with about 15 minutes to get ready. we had booked the taxi the night before through another guest staying at the hotel and this was over 20 minutes late. the staff initially brushed the other guest off, but when I went over, they did almost immediately start calling round to find where the cab was. there was no mention at check-in that breakfast was only served til 09:30 on Sundays, luckily, we turned up with a minute to spare, so were seated, but shouldn't have bothered. there was shell in my scrambled eggs, the bacon was barely cooked and the staff were setting tables for lunch service and made us feel quite uncomfortable. check out was easy, and the receptionist wished us a lovely day.

Disappointing breakfast. Waiting staff helpful. Reception staff querying whether the room only booking had taken breakfast. They hadn’t but felt like we weren’t believed.

Excellent room and hotel in general with pleasant staff however the food was very poor. Four star hotel but only offering poorly cooked pub food such as F&C, Scampi, Burgers, roast of the day etc.. nothing adventurous, no pasta, curries, no fresh fish although a few miles from the sea except fried cod from The North East I guess. It’s a fair walk to the next restaurant (a hotel) and we saw a Wetherspoons in Barnstaple which we didn’t fancy. We ended up on our last night of three collecting a sandwich from a garage and it was nicer than the previous nights F&C…. I hate writing a poor review as the staff were trying so hard and the hotel is excellent in all other aspects but someone at an executive level made the menu decision as apparently there used to be a bistro…..At 4* hotel prices one aspects 4* food to be available . I should have checked the web a bit closer I expect. Also be aware breakfast closes at 9.00am weekdays (9.30am weekends) and when you’re on a break you need a bit more leeway. It’s an expensive “full English” at £17 and then offered Eggs Benedict at a £3 supplement that’s ludicrous. I suppose we are classed as elderly and so expect everything we need on site and not to have to drive for meals.

Clean, efficient, well equipped room. Would like to have seen more variety on the breakfast buffet. Hotel lacked some facilities I’d hope for from its rating such as a pool, gym but no problem. Staff were overall pleasant and helpful. Good parking and charging facilities and opposite a nice park.

Very nice hotel, friendly staff, good location, plenty of free parking, great breakfast (gluten free breakfast was the best, good to be able to eat nearly everything on the buffet & the cooked option) Only stayed one night due to quick visit to see relatives but will be back and will definitely stay longer.

What a beautiful hotel, can’t fault my stay. Lovely staff, great restaurant with huge choices and bright clean bedroom and bathroom. Highly recommended.
