Old building! But this is more than offset by the staff and experience

Beautiful hotel. Great food. Comfortable bed. English not much spoken other than at front desk, but staff is most pleasant and tries hard to help. Near to East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST).

A hotel with a spacious room for a decent price in Shanghai. They could do a better job in maintaining the conditions of the furnitures and other facilities

The hotel was not too bad, but I doubt that I'd return. The room is fairly basic for the price. The breakfast is VERY overpriced, but there are not many other options in the surrounding area. I booked a king bed, but was given a room with two singles. The staff switched me to a much smaller room with a double bed when I brought this to their attention. It was ok, but I had paid extra for a large room with a king.

As other reviewers mention, it is slightly outside the main part of the city - however, it was perfect for us because it was in close proximity to where family lived. The hotel was very clean, the staff extremely professional and everyone spoke at least a little bit of english, and the hotel is walking distance from the beautiful Shanghai Botanical Gardens (only 20RMB, or about $3.50 entrance fee). The room was cleaned well every day and we had a lovely view of the hotel's pond and black swans. I would highly recommend, especially if you need to stay in the southern part of Shanghai for any reason.

I have been to the tourist areas of Shanghai several times, so for me, it was not neccessary to be in the heart of the tourist district. What is remarkable about Skylight Gardents is its immediate proximity to the Shanghai Botanical Gardens. As a hotel guest, you have free admission, and a private gate that enters into an expansive oasis. If you are in trepidation of air pollution and the hustle and bustle of Shanghai, I would recommend this hotel. The downside is that it is not close to major attractions. So, if you are looking for a very pleasant place to de-compress, before moving to another area of China, and have no need to do tourism 101, then I would recommend this four-star accomodation.

The hotel is basically decent and claen but some furniture were kind of old and outdated. The "biggest" downside of this hotel is that it is remote from the downtown area and there is no subway to access nearby.

It's good at this price. Very quite, close to a park. Outside of the hotel, there is nothing basically. Therefore, It is very suitable for people who don't like down life style, but it is not good for people (young, lady,...) who like shopping, eating, night-life, etc., because it is pretty far away from downtown.

This is a great hotel with large, comfortable rooms, lovely garden, good bathrooms, nice b'fast (Chinese and Western). It is quite far from downtown, and not even walking distance to the metro, so only appropriate for people with business in the area. It is popular for putting up people at conferences connected to Eastern Chinese University of Science and Technology, nearby. The one drawback was an almost complete absence of English from hotel staff.

I was waked up by noise from construction work upstairs early in the morning. The staff is friendly and overall condition of the hotel is OK. The location of hotel is just too far from the downtown and any subway stations.

we stayed there because it was close to our relatives, and it was fine and clean but it's WAY out of town for anyone who wants to see Shanghai highlights. We also chose it because of the lovely pool that is advertised, even at the front desk -- but it was empty; they do not fill it until May. Likewise, there are tennis courts in good shape but the prices of court time and equipment doubled over night from our first inquiry Depends on who you talk to i guess. In the end we didn't bother, but both those amenities were reasons we chose the hotel. Neighborhood was ok but may seem sketchy to some Americans.

This hotel would have been easy 4/5 stars if not for the whole payment portion. Here are the issues in order: 1) I paid for the hotel in full over hotels.com, yet the hotel charged me for the room again. (working on resolving this issue) 2) The amount I paid at the hotel, I explicitly selected to pay in local currency (RMB) as my credit card does not charge conversion fees - yet they still billed me in US dollars, essentially charging a 4% currency conversion fee. (the bill they gave me had the option of both payments, and I circled the RMB option, pointed to it, and asked to be billed in RMB.. yet they just ignored that)

The hotel is next to the botanical garden which is nice for morning walks/jogs. Its gym and swimming pool need to be improved but overall, I enjoyed my stay and found the hotel is good value for the money.

This hotel is quite far from down town Shanghai and other attractions. Most local business people do not know its location. We found it to be acceptable, but they do not recognize smoking floors vs non-smoking. I booked a non-smoking king room and upon arrival they gave us a choice of smoking king or non smoking twins. We took the twins but smoking was prevalent on the floor. Lastly, upon checking out, I was handed a bill to pay that was wildly incorrect. They did not take into consideration that I had pre-paid for the room through hotels.com. Due to language barrier, it was difficult to try to clear up. After 'settling' the pre-payment scenario, I had to convince mgt that I had also signed a credit card voucher as a deposit for services. Finally, on the way to the air port, mgt called the driver and wanted an additional $489.00. The whole experience was not enjoyable and unless you are very fluent in Chinese or a Chinese national, I strongly recommend against this hotel.

This hotel is cozily located in a quiet area but still conveniently close to public transportation. Room is nice and clean. Breakfast is decent though it is a little expensive.
