Beautiful and peaceful spot in Brugge. A lovely hotel with helpful staff and a great bar.

We stayed for 4 nights in this excellent hotel and took the room upgrade offered by the desk at check-in at minimal additional cost. This gave us a large room overlooking the courtyard with an excellent bathroom with separate bath and walk in shower. There was a separate loo off the entrance corridor. It was almost like a suite and benefitted from having two doors between the bedroom and the main hallway. It was very well furnished had generous stowage and space for luggage, that meant it was neat and uncluttered with everything squared away. The beds were very comfortable. Above all it was quiet. We never heard a thing and slept very well. The hotel is beautifully decorated in an understated style but showcases its historic features. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France all met here in 1546 (when it was a monastery not an hotel). It is situated in secluded, well-maintained gardens. There are two restaurants, a bar and a very well appointed spa. The staff were charming and helpful and all spoke good English - which is pretty much normal in the Netherlands anyway. We ate in the Brasserie and the food was first class. As it is well-placed in the town centre, other dining options were available only minutes away. All were of a good standard.

Nice grounds but dated interior. Some of the most uncomfortable beds and pillows I’ve ever experienced

Nice clean room and well shaped garden, but unfortunately outside of the hotel sometimes noisy and woke me up at night.

Hotel was stunning and only a minute or two walk to the nearest cafes and bars. Very helpful amd friendly staff. Would recommend the rooms with balcony and canal view, very spacious and very comfy bed and pillows. Will definitely return.

This hotel is so central and the staff were really helpful.

The staff at this hotel are amazing but a very special mention for Rob who literally saved my life when I had a medical emergency. His fast acting response meant that I am alive to write this review - I will be forever grateful. We will certainly be back to this wonderful hotel.

W hi at an incredible surprise when we checked in. So much greater than the pics The History of the place, and all the amenities. The room was spectacular looking over the park and canal. So peaceful. Yet it was so close to everything. This was the crown jewel in our visit to Netherlands. We fell in love with Utrecht. I will recommend Karel-V as top place to stay. The staff were so helpful getting us to the hotel when we got lost. Sent a taxi for us. Thankyou so much for such a memorable time.

The center of Utrecht is quaint and charming and the Grand Karel V is situated nicely within that but still feels quiet and even estate-like.

We enjoyed every aspect of our stay ar Grand Hotel Karel V! It was relaxing, quiet, a beautiful setting, fantastic location, excellent service, impeccably decorated and maintained and overall deserving of the 5 stars! We had the opportunity to dine at the Michelin Star restaurant Karel V, and is was absolutely outstanding as well! We look forward to returning.
