The staff were all fabulous. We were initially not impressed with state of bathroom but this was promptly rectified and cleaning was good for the remaining days. Our bure was fantastic- a few steps from the sand and it had great outdoor area with private plunge pool and day bed. Breakfast and lunch menus stayed unchanged. They need to anticipate running out of some food items before it actually happens. Food at dinner was generally good and the menu changed daily. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay.Recommend it for a very quiet lazy time.

There are some absolute plusses about this property and some definite negatives. Overall, we had a good visit but would not return. It’s not 4 star and below par of a Club Med. ok if you need a budget trip. The beach front bure on sandy beach is perfect. Great snorkeling off beach. Negatives are mgmt runs it as cheap as possible and food at breakfast and lunch is inedible (had to rely on protein bars) dinner was good. Safety issues of glass not plastic for cocktails in and around pool! Coconut trees not maintained right over chairs and walkways and we saw several fall, very dangerous to not maintain. Staff great but works 15 hrs a day for a month or more with lower pay. They ship laundry to main island so they run out of towels. Used bath and beach towels for several days and had to demand new ones. Wanted to hike up to top of mtn and asked staff who didn’t know how to get there! Mostly retired people on a budget, so just know what you’re getting into. Another couple after arriving was looking to move to another resort. There are ones run far better there we have stayed at, so we know it can be done. I talked to mgr, mostly about horrible food and towels, and he didn’t even respond or say a word and just looked angry. He runs it cheaply and didn’t like being told it wasn’t ok.

Staff were great and beautiful location but service was terrible in restaurants, really feels like they are understaffed.

We recently had a seven nights stay on the island and it was really wonderful. Even though it was the wet season, we were lucky with the weather and only had a little rain. Although it was very very hot but that didn’t matter because we spent all day in the water! The staff were absolutely fantastic, you couldn’t fault them. They were so friendly and lovely and looked after us so well, especially our daughter who needed a gluten-free diet. The chef was always happy to adjust the meals and even baked fresh bread and cakes for her while we were there. The staff in the dive shop were fabulous as well, especially David our dive master and the two boat captains. The entertainment was lovely as well and in general everybody was so accommodating. The burrs were absolutely beautiful and all the facilities were really great. It was very quiet in the resort as it is low season so don’t expect a lot of vibe at this time of year (Jan) but if you’re looking for relaxation this place is hard to beat. We have been to several different island resorts in Fiji and this really was one of our favourites if you’re looking for quiet and relaxation in an absolutely beautiful environment. The snorkelling off the beach and the diving was really world-class. We hope to go back and would recommend the island unreservedly!

Loved our stay at Matamanoa - beautiful location, stunning beach, beautiful, well appointed bures, good snorkelling off the beach, stunning sunsets. The food was good , ample servings but could be improved with more fresh salads and fresh vegetables. The staff are absolutely wonderful and could not do enough for us. We will be back to this little piece of paradise. Bula Vinaka, Sota Tale

This was an amazing resort! Quiet island, with no cars and adults only. Staff was great, friendly and helpful. Would definitely would go back to the resort! Loved the beachfront villa, with privacy, lots of outdoor seating and the plunge pool was amazing! Gorgeous landscaping done on the island, with amazing views. More food options at the restaurant would be nice, and more lighting for the walk way at night would be recommended, especially by the bridge. Loved that each room on the island was it's own separate little "hut/villa." I do wish on check in that the staff let us know of the layout of the island and where our room was, vs hoping on a golfcart (facing backwards) and taken to your room. I small map which shows where you are and where you're going would have been helpful. We walked one hiking trail but never found the second one, which we would have done if told about where/how to access this. We enjoyed the activities offered here, both free and the paid snorkeling adventures. We would definitely recommend and hope to visit again soon!

We have vacationed at Matamanoa over 12 times over a 30 year period. Breakfast is good however dinner has not improved and is not of an acceptable standard (and we don’t have high expectations on a Fijian island!). What happened to the friendly Fijian staff (except for Lucas who was friendly and smiley). We will be looking for an alternative island for our next Fijian adventure. Our transfers were via Purple Turtle and we highly recommend Trev and his team.

We absolutely LOVED our time at Matamanoa! The island feels like paradise! It felt like an intimate luxury experience with kind, lovely staff! The snorkeling was the best we’ve ever done, right in front of the resort. The resort and grounds are breathtaking! We loved everything about this resort, we wish we could have stayed longer! 3 nights was wonderful but we could have stayed a week! Not the resort’s fault, but we planned our own travel and didn’t realize it is a bit tricky to get from the mamanuca islands to yasawa islands (so just check ferry schedule first) without returning to the port if you are planning on your own.

Positives: incredible coral right off the beach, beautiful pool area, lovely water, calm and quiet, great fire show (only held once during our four night stay) Negatives: bad value at $400/night for a very basic room, few free activities (most don’t happen - when asked why, the staff just shrug their shoulders), paid activities are good but overpriced, water is awful - hence tea, coffee etc is also not great, stingy on quality of bread and juice for breakfast, diner is overpriced. Overall: go if you love coral, beautiful water, and a nice pool. Don’t go if you want good food and water, or good value for money. Either way, bring your own water.
