We could not find the hotel because the name has changed. It is no longer Holiday Inn Express. We had not been notified by email. We wasted an hour in the afternoon heat searching and finally found it. See photo.
Our first room had a cracked sink and the safe was not working (photos). The manager was sympathetic and offered a different room with a noisy air conditioner. Our third room was fine except that the sink was cracked, the safe didn't work and there was black mold on the bathroom walls and shower glass (photos). This room later developed a noisy air conditioner.
Breakfasts were typical Holiday Inn Express format and good. The white vertical pole in this area was filthy (photo) and some seats were ripped (photo).
Bed linens were very good. We felt the area is not safe at night. There is spray-painted graffiti everywhere outside the hotel and in many places throughout the city.
There is a good grocery store next to the hotel. Very handy to have the train station and bus station across the street. Avoid the laneway to the right down the street from this hotel. There are areas of piled garbage, men in doorways and garbage on the streets.
We hope that the new owners of this hotel will do a thorough renovation. This is the first time in many years of travelling that we have encountered problems at a major hotel.
