The building of the Canario Inn is gorgeous. It looks like a historic Condado house that you just want to love, but the accommodations are very disappointing. Upon arrival, there is no place for luggage storage, yet there is plenty of space to create a safe place to store bags. This is a total miss since San Juan has an international airport, and flights arrive since early morning. The hallways and public spaces are so dingy that we never brought food back to the inn. That’s unfortunate because there is a patio that could be fixed up nicely. The rooms are beyond disappointing. The walls have been painted over so many times that the buildup is pretty tragic, and the dark, depressing paint colors are far from festive and relaxing for someone on vacation mode.
The best thing that could happen to this place is for an investor to buy the property and give it a major facelift. I just hope that whoever does keeps the integrity of the original home and the beautiful tile along the stairs. Maybe even bring forward some of the history of the house!
