The hotel was well located with easy access to Lingering Gardens 250m, bank of China 50m and shopping centre Kmall within minutes from the hotel. However, the room wasn’t clean, the wall paper was peeled off, the air conditioner wasn’t working properly. The staff though were nice and friendly, but poor English was the main blocker for them to communicate with guests. The hotel restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip with high quality food, but their customer service could improve. Overall, the photos on the website aren’t a good representative of the room condition and cleanliness.

We had used this hotel before so this was a return visit but that won't happen again. Breakfast was not so good - few western choices although the hotel now seems to cater for western tour groups. At check out we were asked to pay for a glass which they claimed we had broken - a very grubby cracked glass was produced as "evidence". We had not broken a glass but reception persisted - even calling in the maid. It was an unpleasant experience. The hotel is in a hard location to hail a taxi but has no system for calling a taxi for you. This is a problem if you are trying to get to the airport or station.

On a recent trip to visit family in Suzhou suburban, we stayed at Garden hotel for two nights in order to enjoy places of interest in the old city. We like the location and the service quality of the hotel and will definitely go back. The hotel is located at the center of old Suzhou city. Liuyuan garden, the 2nd famous classical garden of Suzhou, is right across the street. The express bus route You1 stopped at Liuyuan garden and took us directly to Zuozhengyuan garden, the most famous classical garden in China. Within walking distance, we visited Shantangjie street, an ancient street that parallels a canal that connects the old city and Huqiu hill. The Shilu street subway is also in 10 min walking distance. The hotel is featured with TV, free high speed wifi, a few small classical gardens among 4 buildings. The free breakfast buffet provides ample orient and western choices. The rooms were clean. The furniture were a bit out of date but served their purpose well. The staffs were friendly and provided courtesies such as taxi call and free same-day luggage storage after we checked out. We checked in before noon and was offered a room for brief rest, and then changed to a smoke-free room an hour later.

The hotel is near the UNESCO cultural heritage Liu Yuan Park. The area is pretty quiet. But, too many smokers destroyed the air in the hotel and its gardens.

Design of the place is much keeping in line with the characteristic Suzhou garden feel. Breakfast is good.

I had stayed at the Garden Hotel on my first trip to Suzhou many years ago. On my regular trips over the years, I stayed in another hotel selected by Suzhou locals. As I was unable to book my previous hotel, I was happy to return to The Garden as I was sure my Chinese born wife would enjoy it along with the wonderful city of Suzhou. The hotel was very comfortable with lovely garden surrounds but does show its age. Staff and related service were excellent. I was somewhat disappointed that little effort was made to cater for western tastes despite the fact that many of their clinets were westerners. At best, a western style cafe would have sufficed. I did try to order a coffee from the bar as I noted they had an expresso coffee machine, but the young lady lacked any working knowledge of coffees. Breakfast was adequate but again offered little directed to a western palate. After two weeks in central China, it would have been nice to indulge in some western food. We did enjoy a private banquet in their upstairs dining hall. I would like to suggest that Expedia review its marketing. It was only when I booked for this hotel that I was advised that only one breakfast was included in the charge despite booking for two people. I believe that is deceptive marketing. One would not expect to purchase a car and then find out the price only included the back tyres. The location of The Graden is very pleasant -- just a short stroll from the Lingering Garden. Another Suzhou delight.

The hotel is located in very close proximity to the beautiful Lingering Garden, and its own garden was also very nice. Many amenities nearby (convenience stores, bakery, fruit store, bus stop, bank), although do note that the neighbourhood is old. Taxi ride from the train station won't take you too long. Staff is professional and smiling, always ready to help. The only minor drawback is the room itself, although it is clean and value-for-money given the convenience. You'll have to keep your expectations modest as the room is on the smaller side, and is slightly old. There was a faint musky smell throughout the hotel, although not unbearable (possibly the cleaning liquids they use?) Overall, it's clean and convenient - very practical. Good for a short stay in Suzhou to see the attractions.

I tried to book another five star hotel whose English name contains Garden Hotel. However, Expedia does not has the hotel in its list, and I ended up with a wrong booking. However, it turned out to be a nice mistake. Naturally, the room is not as luxury as the five-star hotel I intended, but it is clean and comfortable. In addition, its location is super, closing to Liuyuan Garden, the Station, and a bus stop. What I am most satisfied is the breakfast. Very Suzhou style. I love it! I love the lightly seasoned and a little bit sweet food. I will definitely book this hotel when I visit Suzhou.

Highly recommended. Beautiful hotel. Just a few minutes walk from the Lingering Gardens. Staff extremely helpful and always tending to your needs. Most of the staff speak decent English. We stayed in 4 cities around the area (Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, Wuxi) and this hotel was hands on the best.

I have been traveling around China for a month staying at low cost hotels that mostly served the Chinese. I wanted to experience China as the Chinese people do. These hotels are not the styles of hotels that westerners are use to. The Garden Hotel was the best hotel I stayed in during my one month travel in China. This hotel was very clean and very close to a western style hotel with an eastern decor. If I am ever in Suzhou again, I would stay at the Garden Hotel again.
