Quaint family run ryokan for generations, 20 meters from the bridge ! Service is extraordinary, as is the traditional cuisine with a modern twist. Can tailor menus for kids. Traditional style rooms, very clean with private baths overlooking the bridge, canal and water! Also beautiful views as you enjoy your breakfast and dinner. M/F Onsens are beautiful and relaxing. Treat yourself, you deserve it!

I had an absolutely beautiful stay here in February. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left I felt incredibly looked after. This was my most comfortable sleep in Japan. My room faced the bridge/river which I was lucky enough to see turn twice during my stay! The onsen was a lovely bonus, though the baths would likely only comfortably fit one, or two family members/friends. Location was excellent, very close to the train station and buses, as well as a good walking distances to local attractions. I had the ryokan breakfast and dinner - both were delicious and I was excited to try a variety of different foods. The team were very kind, telling me to make sure I kept warm on the day of my departure and providing me with a phone wire when I’d misplaced mine.

This joint is a bit of a hit-&-miss for my family and me. We love the location - can't beat it. Close by to key attractions - the chair lift & monorail up to the scenic lookout and amusement park, as well as right next to Kaisen rotating bridge leading to of course, the famed sand bar stretch to walk across. It's also close by to the boat cruise to get tickets and board for the scenic cruises. As an onsen-ryokan, the onsen area was rather small, and even smaller for thw ladies area. Max 2 to 3 pax at any one time before it gets too close for comfort. The futon bedding and pillows I didn't like - too soft and flimsy with little support. The Kaiseki meals were well done and be it sashimi, or anything that was on the menu, it was very well presented and the ingredients used were all fresh, and well-prepared. Service from the staff was excellent - we had no issues with their level of hospitality and would compliment them! The souvenir shop was also unique with handmade souvenirs found nowhere else made of silk and other items. For those driving, one can offload the luggage just outside the main entrance, before going off to park the car at designated parking lots a distance away. Parking is free for hotel guests, and they will give a laminated car park display sign to be placed on the dashboard to prove that you are a guest of the hotel and can park in the assigned lot .

An unforgettable stay at Ryokan Taikyoro – the essence of Japanese hospitality Our stay at Ryokan Taikyoro in Amanohashidate was one of the absolute highlights of our trip through Japan. From the very first moment, we were welcomed with such warmth, grace, and genuine kindness that we immediately felt at home. Check-in was carried out in the most charmingly Japanese way – seated at a low table, served a cold tea and a delicate sesame cookie, while the staff handled everything quietly and with perfect attention to detail. Every gesture felt thoughtful, every movement calm and deliberate – a true expression of omotenashi, the deep-rooted Japanese spirit of wholehearted hospitality. Our room, ready well before check-in time, was a beautiful blend of traditional and modern design, featuring a private terrace with a breathtaking view of the Kaisen Bridge and the water. The atmosphere was serene and harmonious – a perfect place to unwind. The kaiseki dinner that evening was nothing short of exceptional. Each course was a celebration of autumn’s beauty and balance – artfully presented, refined in taste, and prepared with evident passion. From the silky eggplant tofu with yuzu to the perfectly roasted wagyu beef and the violet sweet potato pudding, it was easily the most memorable meal of our entire journey. Later that night, we sat on our terrace, listening to fish splashing in the water and the soft chirping of crickets – a gentle, almost magical soundtrack to the evening, as if nature itself joined in to complete the experience. Breakfast the next morning was equally delightful, fresh and beautifully arranged, accompanied by the morning sun rising over the mountains. In summary: Ryokan Taikyoro is not just a place to stay – it’s a place to experience the very heart of Japan: its warmth, its elegance, and its quiet devotion to detail. We will never forget our time here and can only give our highest recommendation.

Unfortunately, our stay at Taikyourou was not what we expected and felt very unlike any other experience we’ve had in Japan. It came across as a bit of a “churn and burn” setup rather than the warm, thoughtful hospitality Japan is known for. Meals are completely set — there’s a fixed menu for both dinner and breakfast, and at no stage were we asked about dietary requirements or allergies. Although the food was good/ very traditional it was served with the worst cheapest horrible chopsticks and served at a lightening speed with a feeling from the staff that they just wanted to go home. Plates being taken before finishing and then next courses being sat on tables next to us it was really horrible. The sea-view room we booked was tiny — far smaller than it appears online — with nowhere to hang clothes or store bags. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and nothing like the photos suggested. There was also no effort to provide any information about the area, nearby attractions, or local culture, which made the overall experience feel impersonal and rushed. The town itself is undeniably beautiful but very tourist-driven, with large tour buses arriving daily. It’s a stunning region, but I’d recommend staying elsewhere — Taikyourou just doesn’t live up to the standard or warmth you’d expect in Japan.
