A little hard to find as 161 is not the street number (it is #43 I think) in a very narrow alley but great location and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Honey wanted to see some live music and they recommended School which was fun! Breakfast was just OK but overall was enjoyable and wish we could have stayed longer.

Amazing!! The room was super clean and you could tell they put effort into the bathrooms (really comfortable showers) Location: It’s very homey in the middle of the hutongs and very quiet at night. There’s a couple hidden restaurant gems in the hutong too. Once you step out onto the main street there’s a bunch of shops. Once you’re out onto the main street it’s about 10 minutes to the subway, and right next to the bus stop. Plus it’s next to subway line 5 which takes you to most attractions in the city. Extra: the folks in the front are super friendly and helpful and speak great English. If you’re looking for a place to stay in city center, this is pretty solid. Great location and comfy, clean stay.

Interesting Hutong hotel. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. Our plane was very late arriving yet they were waiting to greet us. Excellent English was a bonus.

I am giving 161 Lama Temple Courtyard Hotel 5 stars - and I didn’t even stay there. How can that be, you might ask? I had a hotel reservation, but when I arrived they told me there was a problem with my room (a plumbing problem and the plumber worked all night but was unable to fix it in time). So here’s what 161 Lama Temple did for me... 1. Got a room for me at a nearby alternate hotel. 2. They carried my bags to the alternate hotel (which was pretty nice). The price of the alternate hotel was lower so they paid me the difference in cash! 3. They offered me free beer. 4. They made me an excellent custom breakfast the following morning. 5. The entire staff was very friendly and made me feel I was the most important person in Beijing. In summary, if you are lucky enough to get a room at 161 Lama Temple Courtyard Hotel, you’d be crazy not to stay there. BTW, the hotel is in a hutong and doesn’t look like much from the outside... but once inside you’ll see why it’s a ‘courtyard hotel’. If and when I travel again to Beijing, I am definitely staying at 161 Lama Temple Courtyard Hotel.

What a really great place to stay. Staff was super helpful. The beds were the most comfortable that we slept on while in China. The room was also the cleanest. The staff went over the top helping us with directions, taxi reservations and food recommendations.

Charming place to stay in Beijing! The staff was extremely friendly and helped with our transportation. The breakfast was good each morning. I would highly recommend to all travelers to Beijing who are looking for something different from regular high rise hotels.

The hotel is in the traditional style. The mattress was firm, just the type I prefer.

Staff is so friendly. They make everything for you to have a nice stay. Good spot. Breakfast is good and plenty. Good coffee! Beers in the fridge. Comfy beds and nice room. Subway is a must so using a pass is worth it if you stay more than 4 days. Distances between 2 subway stations can be very long 2-3km. So more than sometimes, walking is not an option. The place offers Great Wall tour (small group) to a less touristic and crowded part of the Wall. It was good enough for me. They offer other tours too. I recommand this place.

All staffs are friendly and helpful. Simple hotel in a small alley. Felt like a local. Family room is abit small. Toilet got flies, had to keep the toilet's door closed always.

The staff here really is fantastic. The hotel itself looks as advertised - a more traditional little hotel on a side street (hutong) in Beijing. It's a nice and easy place to use as a home base for exploring a cool city (convenient location and close to the subway, not to mention fun things and good places to eat nearby). The rooms are kept very clean and you can order small meals or coffee in the hotel lobby if you want. The gem really is the staff though - EXTREMELY nice, helpful, eager to help, and they all speak English.

The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. They made life much easier for our non-Mandarin speaking group.

Friendly staff. Great location to explore a traditional Hutong. Close to the subway station and of course the Lama temple. The rooms are small and need refreshing. Some of the towels are very worn and need to be discarded. There is a bit of mold in the shower.

ABSOLUTELY AMAAAAAZZZIIINNNGGG!!! rooms were great...beds are kinda harder....more than American ones but not any more than most of Asia. Spacious....usually not the case in Asia....and the front desk gals were incredibly friendly and helpful. They helped us buy train tix to Xi'an....which was proving to be more difficult than I would have imagined....would walk us to the main street to catch taxi they would call to make sure we found the right taxi and they would make sure driver knew where to go. Took the mutianyu great wall trip thru them and they walked us to the tour bus. They go way out of their way to help. Give you water everyday in your room. Area is good. Near restaurants and an amazing vegetarian one called Baihe'ai (sp?) they can help you find it. Hotel just about an American block from subway and Lama Temple (good landmark when going by taxi because hotel is down an alert in hiring so taxis have some trouble finding). Have fun and tell him to Simone and the other gals!! Pics are... Hotel room, Lama Temple and some food from vegetarian place mentioned.

The staff is excellent- very willing to help in anyway that they can. Booking tours, recommendations for restaurants. The hotel is hidden in a lane so you really need to use their driver otherwise taxi drivers get lost. Close to subway. It is not your standard chain hotel!!

Lovely little boutique hotel within easy transport by airport express and metro from Beijing Airport. Great traditional decor and style with a quirky feel to the reception area. Staff were very pleasant ladies and very helpful. Lots of street food around the Lama Temple too so no need for the breakfast if you like exploring.
