We spent 10 days at Kogalla Beach. The location is ideal for a relaxing break and for accessing a number of key 'must see' locations. Good selection of local and european food for breakfast. The room was clean enough but the bathroom was in needs a bit of a refresh. Would stay again.

Incredibly rude staff and non-existent wifi but honestly you get what you pay for and the room was clean, the air-con was strong, and the view was beautiful. The beach was too dangerous for swimming in the off season (which we expected) but was super beautiful for a walk or run in the morning.

We stayed there for 5 nights, Room was comfortable, view was good. Clean and comfortable. However Restaurant service could be better. There seems to be enough staff but they all walk upt o your table like fashipn model on ramp, however they don't think of helping you with tea or any other food to bring it your table.

I booked two breaks at this hotel one was a 2 night break the other 8nights whilst traveling across Sri lanka. When we arived the hotel told us that the hotel was full and we had to be moved to their other hotel which at the time was cheaper (long beach) we were assured that this was an upgrade from 3 to 4* star! The long beach hotel was tierd, old, rundown, and extreamly busy long waiting to check in and dinner hall was always full! But due to Sri lankan standards we excepted this. During our two days at the long beach hotel, I enquired where my 8 days would be spent and they tried very hard to convince me that there was no room at koggola beach hotel and that the stay would be at the long beach! I made it clear i wasnt happy with this and said i wanted the hotel I had booked and that I wanted to be down graded to the other hotel! Reluctantly and after many visits to reception it was agreed! When we arived at Koggola beach hotel a few days later its was clearly far superior to the long beach hotel! Ad during our stay the hotel was running at a maximum of 1 third capacity and no where near full! There are 4 hotels on this beach all owned by the same group! And i am no fool, booking are being made with the intentions of moving guests into a higher rated busy hotel that is clearly inferior! Perhaps to maximise profits! Be warned booking this hotel could deliver a serious down-grade. VERY DISSAPOINTING!

Extremely friendly staff. Superb beach. And, best of all, a gorgeous buffet restaurant that featured a lot of lovely Sri Lankan food and an assortment of foreign food. The room was a bit worn, but who really cares? I do intend to return!

Great place if you're looking for some relaxing time at the beach. Rooms are huge and confy. Buffet breakfast had a lot of choices. It has direct access to a gorgeous beach where you can see an amazing sunset. Very close to the train station (direct trains to Galle and Colombo). It was just what I was looking for after 2 weeks of tiring backpacking around Sri Lanka

Our stay was only good because we were upgraded to a beach cabana. This was incredible and the attached restaurant and all services were excellent. We did eat a few times in the main hotel restaurant, both using the buffet and the a la carte. Breakfasts there were reasonable but other meals were poor. The range of food was fine but the quality was not good and service was poor.

On arrival at the hotel we were pleased to be told we were being upgraded to the Beach Cabanas so this review reflects them rather than the main hotel. These are the luxury part of the hotel, right on the beach on the eastern side of the main hotel and are only a year old. Koggala beach is a very long beach and there are actually 4 hotels under the same ownership stretching along the 1.2 km beach. Our cabana was really nice, with a lovely beach to the front and a pool to the back we couldn't have asked for much more. We can't rate the standard of service given highly enough. All staff were extremely helpful and really couldn't do enough for us during our visit. There were amazing views over a beautiful beach although caution is needed as there are some pretty dangerous rips and the sea was quite rough. Lifeguards are on duty though. As we had booked a half board package the only slight downfall is that it is quite a way to walk to the main buffet dining room. We could have eaten in the a la carte restaurant which is part of the cabanas but prefer the choice of a buffet. The standard of the food in the buffet was fairly average and as I am Coeliac needing a gluten free diet, the Sous Chef really went out of his way at each meal time to guide me into what dishes I could eat which was very much appreciated.

Very nice beach. Staff was good and friendly. But rooms were not very clean and bathrooms were very bad condition. No water in the showers. Food was good. Not much selection but tasty.

Friendly and helpful staff. I stayed for 11 days and was overall very happy with my stay. Breakfast was included in the price and was fresh, warm and great. Well furnished room (fridge, kettle, TV, ...). Free Wi-Fi worked well. I will definitely be recommending this hotel to anyone planning on visiting Koggala.
