Excellent ryokan experience. True taste if Japan

Quiet 、comfortable 、excellent service

While the hotel was probably beautiful at some point, it is in dire need of updating. It looks like it wasn’t renovated since the 50s. The odor in the room was unbearable, we couldn’t sleep as it was so intense... There were train tracks right next to our room, with A LOT of traffic - which also didn’t help with the sleeping. The communication of the front desk was poor, to say the least. I emailed them 3 times to discuss our late arrival, and therefore that we wouldn’t have dinner there - I never heard back, and they charged me for a dinner I didn’t 2. I also told them that we would be two guests instead of 3, but they claimed that they had to hear from Hotels.com to refund me the difference, which they never did. Bottom line: no good!

Kasumi was our room attendant while staying at Gora Kadan. She was very attentive and kind, and explained everything clearly during our Kaiseki meal. You can feel the care and attention that is put into the meal. We had the most amazing experience and felt very well taken care even after our stay. I wish I never left!

Gorgeous ryokan, very well appointed gym, pool, gorgeous onsens. Above and beyond service and excellent kaiseki dinner and breakfast.

Can't fault it at all, we had the private outdoor onsen in our room and it was beautiful. Out room host was amazing and even gave us a little photo gift.

Was a unique experience but they didn’t respond to my food requirements and our dinner was negatively impacted. The woman who helped us didn’t speak any English and wasn’t very nice. I’m a hotel owner and I rarely write negative reviews.
