It's a slightly down-market area, a 15 minute walk to the main tourist area, but we chose it as it was close to the bus station. The room itself was excellent - very generous size and with a huge round jacuzzi bath. It also had a steam cleaner and massive TV. It had tea and coffee making and a fridge. Very clean, we were delighted. They told us it's really a business hotel. Breakfast was ok, self service toast and very limited buffet.

Room was spacious and clean enough, bathroom smelled of disinfectant, and the shower was constantly dripping, which doesn't bother me. Bed was nice, close to the bus station is very convenient. The reception is open 24/7, all though I had to wake the guy up when I was leaving around 5 am, so don't be in a hurry if you're off to an early start (or the middle of the night). I was taking the first train to Seoul, which left at 0548 in the morning, but I wasn't sure that I had the correct information, so I had him look it up for me and confirm it, as well as calling me a cab since the train station is 20 minutes away. All of this went off without a hitch, so no complaints. As a solo traveller, spending most of the time outside, I only needed a place to crash, and this was perfect.

Thought hot-spa in the bathtub worked but did not. Breakfast provide every morning at no charge during staying that hotel. Nothing special here. Bus transportation is somewhat messed up with google map sometimes. Not updated google map. Nice landmarks or history to see day and night especially hot day.

The owner allowed us to check in earlier. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was nice with great coffee. A short walk to bus station and Daeruengwon.

Great location near the bus station and busses 10,11,700 which will take you to the temples outside of town. Only 10–15 walk to the center of town. The neighborhood is going through a major overhaul with lots new hotels. Previous reviewers mentioned gambling halls and such, but these all appear to be closed down for some time. The neighborhood was safe. The room itself was cozy, modern, and spacious. To breakfast, although the same for the 2 days I was there, was also good. Highly recommend!

I would have appreciated a warmer and more welcoming attitude from the staff. Otherwise, it was okay.

If you’re looking for a hotel chain, then this place is not the one. This place felt more like a family operated bed and breakfast with some hotel like features. Clean place with comfortable bed. Lighting a bit yellow though. Washroom felt a little outdated but overall clean. Would recommend this place if anyone is in the area. Hot tub didn’t work though.

My room decor was terrific with stylish furnishings. Most hotel amenities were excellent but showering towels are tiny. The neighborhood is convenient but inelegant. Definitely rent a bicycle nearby to explore city when not on a tour.

Easy access to buses and downtown sights. No sidewalks, gambling and clubs around but hotel itself was quiet and wellmana

The first thing to remember is that Sugar Hotel is an inexpensive option for those wanting to experience the amazing history of Gyeongju. Our room was large and clean, the bathroom well fitted out and we slept well. The staff were also welcoming and friendly, although their English was limited. As other reviews have pointed out, the Sugar Hotel likely had a former life as a 'love hotel' and this is reflected in the decor. It also has some interesting amenities, including a functional dry-cleaning cabinet! But this makes it interesting and quite a contrast to the Silla Dynasty tombs of Gyeongju. The hotel is an easy walk to the bus terminal, one of the main markets and some of the historic sites, including the Hanok village. The only downside was the breakfast. While everything was fresh and properly presented, it was also very limited and not always hot.

Located very close to the intercity and local bus terminals and walkable to the start of the tomb area and Hancock village. The area was populated with motels, small restaurants, pc bangs and hostess bars - but hardly the red light district as others have suggested. We felt very safe and it was quiet at night. The hotel had a 1970s vibe with dark devour in the corridors but the room was brightly lit, huge and included a pc, clothes steamer and huge TV. There wasn't a plug for the jacuzzi bath and we weren't there long enough to request one so don't know if it worked. Breakfast was basic but filling - bread, fruit, yoghurt, salad, fries, sausage and scrambled egg. BHC opposite and plenty of nearby convenience stores nearby.
