It was a short walk from the train station and we were able to walk along the river and to the downtown. Breakfast was excellent and it was very quiet.

Nice, clean guest house, very close walk from the station. Enjoyed the breakfast, and the staff were welcoming. Only a couple of issues. First, the lighting is too gloomy. A few more lumens would have made the room appear brighter. Second, my room was at the front of the house, and I was awakened at 3am by noisy works going on at the railway opposite. To be fair, the weather was really warm and I had left the windows opened. When i shut them, the double glazing helped suppress the noise.

Breakfast great and cooked individually, that is not a buffet.

Everything is brilliant about St. Mary's Guest House in York! Location is perfect - just 10 min stroll along the river front into the centre. Beds very comfy. Breakfast pentiful, cooked to order and delicious. Manager, Caroline, is wonderful. Parking inexpensive and easy. We would highly recommend this for a city break.

Sadly we didn't get chance to speak to staff due to our arrival and departure times. But checking in out of hours was simple and quick and the room was clean and very comfortable

Great stay at St Mary's. Staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Not far from the centre within walking distance.

We had a lovely stay. The breakfast was first class, as were the staff. I have two comments about our room (8) - the pillows were a bit lumpy and if we had occasion to stay again, I’d request not to stay in this room because of the two steep steps down into the bathroom. Younger folk may have no problem with them but being that much older and having creaky knees, it wasn’t easy to negotiate them. Thankfully there was a very sturdy rail to hold onto. But I’d still request a different room. All that being said - we still enjoyed our stay.

Very friendly and efficient hosts. Clean room with comfortable bed. Freshly cooked breakfast to order. Very handy for city centre, convenient, quiet location, option to walk along river. Very close to railway station on foot, and can use railway bridge during daylight hours.

Triple room was great, plenty of room for the 3 of us and check in was really easy, I was sent all the information ahead of time and again on the day. Breakfast was amazing and fresh and all the staff were really nice. Ideal location, short walk from the station and town center, in a quiet area. You could hear the trains, but we never found it an issue.

Pleasant guest house,very close walking distance to York Railway Station. Rooms are generally nice and clean, although lighting could be improved. Staff are pleasant and the breakfast was nice.

Rooms were very clean and adequate. Rooms warm during a cold January stay. Cooked breakfast was great. Hostess Caroline was a delight. Flat 10 minute walk to city gate (see photo). So no need to park closer unless you have a walking disability. Very desirable location. The only thing that would have made it better was to let customers know in advance that parking is £12.50 @ night. No nearby free parking in sight. Don’t hesitate to stay here.

Really good place to stay in york justva few mins walk away from the town center

We have been york so many times over the years that it's very familiar with us. The staff at this hotel gave us some other insight into things we didn't know which was very nice. The guesthouse is comfortable and in a great location. Easy walking distance from the city, parking is right outside the hotel although it's on the street. Breakfast supplied is lovely and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and quite spacious with everything you need for a short break.

The staff were very welcoming , the guest house was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good with a gluten free option,including the sausages and the bread. We were able to leave our cases in reception after we checked out in the morning, until we wanted to travel in the afternoon. Would stay there again if we return to the area
