Sadly we were disappointed. The hotel is hugely over-priced for what it is and lacked atmosphere. We sat for drinks in the bar before dinner and no fires were lit and the dining room itself was freezing. The building itself is beautiful but the cheap carpets and garish modern art inside really let it down and don’t do justice to its history (of which there is no mention). It just feels impersonal and doesn’t hug you like it should. £199 a head for dinner is extortionate and the food was so rich; I left my starter after one bite but there was no query from the staff re whether everything was alright. We paid pushing £1k for one night away and I can’t help thinking that we would have had a better time at our local pub.

Everything from our arrival, the room, the grounds, the staff and of course the food were all exceptional. Definitely a special place.

Absolutely sublime in every way.

Everything we hoped it would be and more. Friendly, very helpful staff and fantastic food and service which started before we arrived. The views across the Exe are stunning and the extensive grounds beautifully kept. We plan to come back next summer so we can use the beautiful pool and croquet lawn. Loved the chilled out vibe in the Poolside restaurant.

Unkept exterior. Carpets stained throughout the property. Room clearly not expected. Attention to detail missing. Also, had to find someone to order a drink on the lawn. Needed a good clean.

Excellent all round, the management and staff have thought of everything, we were made very welcome and everything we needed was catered for. An experience like no other. I wished we could of stayed longer.

From the moment that we stepped out of the car, we knew we were at a special place. The attention detail was superb. Very relaxing and it goes without saying at a Michelin starred restaurant great food. The staff were there when we needed them, but never intrusive. The advantage of a small hotel, everyone knew our name and were providing some great service.

Immaculate food, Stunning location, Comfortable and rooms and very attentive service front of house. The sculpture garden is a real treat.

Incredible attention to detail, all staff were very friendly and personable and couldn't do enough for us. Spectacular place!
