Sanjeewa, Is a lovely man, helped us with the suitcase, parking and is very friendly. Rooms could do with a bit of updating, but was a cheap stay. Also breakfast was in the price and sanjeewa made sure there was plenty for everyone.

The relieving manager on arrival was very helpful and carried our luggage up the tight stairs to our room while hubby parked the car (a 5+ minute walk away) The Manager, Sanjeewa, was very pleasant and as a one man band, did a great job not only ensuring breakfast food items were replemished promptly but attending to lodgers requests. The room was VERY small with a very small ensuite. It was very hot as it had the afternoon sun though the one and only window in the room. Unfortunately, the hotel is in a one way lane that ends at the main street. At the end of the lane is Sainsbury plus a pub across the road, so in the very early hours of the morning trucks would drive up the lane and park below our window to load or unload. So a broken sleep each night we stayed. The stairway to our room is a very tight circular stairway, so care needs to be taken if unsteady.

Very good and convenient place. Room was so big. Staff was amazing. Breakfast included. Kitchen facilities also good.

Do not book this Hotel. It does not match the photos of the Hotel. Hole in the wall, wallpaper torn, electrical plug in the bathroom, Pigeons making a noise in the loft!!! When we got to the room after the theatre, we left and drove home, did not even stay. It is a cheap hotel but needs money spent on it.

Very nice accommodations

Sanjeewa was very welcoming when we arrived. The hotel and rooms desperately need updating the tv didn’t work in our room, also the taps were loose and the holder for the shower was broken, however the bedding, towels were spotless and the hotel is in an excellent location. Breakfast was continental and was constantly topped up. Understand this is an old building but a bit of updating would make all the difference.

Very dated,not clean,many things in room broken, beds old and uncomfortable extension leads all over Which are afire risk,very poor experience

Breakfast was okay not too bad or too good stuff was really friendly we like them they always ready to help but we just had little problem with smell of carpets I understand dust and old makes smell but i think it’s time to change them other then that was good experience we liked it.

No complaints, enjoyed my stay. Sanjeewa was a lovely host.

Typical old lodge building in Canterbury so expect and old building. Excellent location right in middle of high street, but off to the side in a street so not too noisy. Sanjeewa the hotel manager was excellent and could not be more helpful.

This is a strange little hotel On the good side - it right in the centre of the city, it was quiet at night, the room itself was clean, continental breakfast was included and in a pleasant airy room - and Sanjeewa, the man looking after the hotel could not have been more helpful and kind However the room was dominated by a huge bed but otherwise very cramped, the duvet wasn’t wide enough for the huge bed, it had a mishmash of strange old furniture, a tiny en-suite with nowhere to hang towels, not enough PowerPoints. It felt like staying with an eccentric, elderly aunt!! Parking was 15 extra per night and at least 5-8 mins walk away - although the website said it was ‘available’ - to be honest this is a challenge in Canterbury The Sri Lankan decor in the hotel was rather incongruous with the style of the property and was looking very faded with pealing wallpaper and chipped paintwork. With a bit of investment and some interior design advice this could be a nice hotel Having said all that Canterbury is a lovely city and we enjoyed our short break

Hotel is clean but very dated, room was never big enough for a double bed. Tv wouldn’t turn on, toilet door didn’t open fully due to the bed. Hot tap didn’t turn on and cold tap wouldn’t turn off properly. Unable to use the shower because the mount for the head was broken. Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Yes it was cheap but seen better hostels for less money.

Great location and Sanjeewa was tremendously kind and accommodating. Unless you seek a fancy, more updated place to stay, this one is hard to beat.

The host Sanjeewa was welcoming, friendly and charming. My bed was comfortable and the facilities in my room were good, apart from the fact that I could not find a remote control for the TV, though this did not really matter to me. I had the only ground floor room, and although it faced out on to the street it was quiet and I was not disturbed. Breakfast, included in the price, was a typical continental one with a reasonable selection. There is no onsite parking, but you can stop briefly to unload your luggage, after which the proprietor will book you into a nearby ANPR car park at a special rate. Bars, restaurants and the magnificent Canterbury Cathdral are all within easy walking distance

The hotel is in a great location and the solo member of staff is friendly and helpful and works hard. The hotel itself, however, is tired and poorly maintained. It was a cramped room, the shower was held up by a bit of plastic, and there was hardly any water from it. The bathroom was tiny. For a quick cheap night it’s passable, but any longer than that would not be recommended.

I stayed overnight at Greyfriars Lodge during the recent hot weather. There were no fans or air conditioning in the room, so I don't think that I would recommend staying here over summer. I kept the bedroom window open for the fresh air, but this meant that the road noise from the street was louder. The continental breakfast was available from 8-9am, but as the food was not set up in advance, it is advisable to arrive around 8.15 rather than 8am.
