First off: Baku is a beautiful city with beautiful people. I would recommend it to ANYONE.
Second: My husband and I routinely stay in budget hotels. Luxury is wasted on us, plus we always find that we meet more locals this way.
We really wanted to like Maajid more. It was in a perfect spot in the Old Town. We picked this place because of all the perfect ratings, and I am afraid that they may have been false. (Expedia, you might want to check on this.)
When we arrived, the front desk clerk looked like he would rather eat tacks than sign us in. He looked so displeased. We get to the room and some woman's fingernails were on the table. We try not to have our towels exchanged every day, but when exchanged, it was only one towel. There was a leak in the shower that we had to stop up using one towel. The hotel is very loud. They never changed our tea cups. (Dirty) Our first night there was met with screaming children (you can hear everything that is on the first floor all the way up to your room on the third floor.) You can clearly hear what is going on in the room next to you. Upstairs there seemed to be some sort of wrestling match...we would hear loud thumps in the middle of the night. We had to disconnect the phone because we kept getting random calls.
Also, this is just for information: There is no coffee served. There is NO bar as listed, in fact, this hotel is completely alcohol free.
