Excelent boutique hotel! I would return here!

Really nice hotel. Had everything we needed. Staff was great. Beds were super comfy. AC worked great! Head to the Tenedor Argentino just a block away for a killer dinner.

It was okay overall .

The Gran Hotel was my 1st and last stop during my Costa Rica trip. On my very 1st night, I arrived around 8pm completely jet lagged and did not really have the chance to enjoy the place as I left the following day in the morning. This said, the lady T the reception was kind enough to include breakfast for me as the room was booked with my husband’s reward program and there were some issues with the settlement of the remaining balance - and that was much appreciated. For my stay at the end of my trip, things were different: for starters, I left my passport in my room in another hotel, and the reception was kind enough to hold it in escrow and gave it back to me when I checked in. The location is spot on, as the hotels is really walking distance from most of the highlights in San Jose. The valet service was also excellent. And FYI, all prices do not include all local taxes, and it is not always specified.

At first when I inquired about a shuttle to the airport, they stated yes, but did not explain that it was not a service run by the hotel but an Uber type driver and the charge was $45. The stay was good but they should be more upfront about the shuttle service that they use. Thankfully we had a friend that knew that roads and provided us transport to the airport.

I forgot some cloths, spoke to the front desk from the airport. provided a fedex account to have them shipped. never got my items. cant get any help at this point.

The beds were super comfortable. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was a wide assortment.

Jason at the front desk went above and beyond to make our stay truly wonderful. During a very difficult time—our son required emergency surgery at nearby Clínica Bíblica—Jason showed incredible kindness and support. He anticipated our needs, accommodated every request with genuine care, and consistently checked in to ask how our son was doing. I sincerely hope Gran Hotel recognizes what an exceptional team member they have in him. Beyond Jason, the porters and concierge staff were also excellent—friendly, attentive, and professional. The food at the hotel was very good, with the brunch standing out as a highlight. The location is ideal—within walking distance to several museums and just across the street from the National Theatre. All in all, a fantastic hotel in a prime location. You really can’t go wrong here. And if you have the chance, be sure to ask for Jason.

Closeness to museums. Being in middle of town.

Room was small and bathroom wasn’t private at all - you could see someone showering while sitting in bed (shower and toilet had glass walls). Hotel was okay overall but nothing special. Bellhop staff members were all incredibly kind! Overall we didn’t really feel safe here at all. Even when loading our car in front of the hotel armed guards moved closer to us seemingly to protect our family. Wouldn’t recommend families to stay in this area. Upon arrival we tried to cancel due to not feeling safe but the hotel wouldn’t let us.

I couldn’t say better things about this property. Clean rooms comfortable beds and the breakfast was very good. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Special thanks to Joanna who made our stay exceptionally enjoyable. Would definitely recommend as great option in San Jose

Great location. Breakfast options were amazing. We also loved the location which was very central for exploring the beautiful city of San Jose.

Hotel itself was quite nice, but the area around it was gross, unsafe.
