This place is a jewel! I don't think there is another place like Bukit Berahu on Pulau Belitung. The location is simply breathtaking. There are 5 small cottages at the beach that can be assessed via about 90 steps from the restaurant. On the hill there are also two big bungalows that have the view of the bay (but with some trees in the front).
I stayed in one of the cottages and I think I was the only guest that stayed overnight so I had the beach to myself at night and shared it with the people who simply visited it during the day.
I was advised not to swim so I didn't which was a shame.
The cottage was a bit basic, the bed sheets were too small and the shower is a little old, but I didn't mind because the look from my porch at any time of the day was so beautiful. The pool is spacious and at times empty, showers and toilets are available. The food was not great (too sweet, to oily, much of it was deep fried) but as a Westerner I simply have a different taste. Since I don't like nasi or mie for breakfast I had bananas and coffee instead. I certainly don't expect them to serve Western breakfast.
The staff was extremely helpful, they carried my (heavy) suitcase down and up those stairs, they organized a scooter for one day (only 100 K - and it was new!) and my taxi to the airport (for 200 000). However, only one of the women working there (I did not see any men :-) ) spoke English. For me, this was very good because I got to practice my bahasa and learned quite a few new words, but for people with no knowledge of Bahasa this might cause a problem.
For anybody who is interested in staying in a beautiful place, who doesn't need luxury, Western food or service in English, for anybody who wants a more authentic Indonesian experience, I highly recommend this place.
