Staff was great, room was good and beds were comfy

We love our comfortable stay, it’s a good option if you visit santa monica for the first time.

When you first check in it isn't that bad. The rooms are kinda small once you enter. Hallways are very dingy. It's suppose to be non smoking but it smells like pot and smoke even in the room. Once the tv is of you can hear everything next door and top room from neighbors. The morning of our first stay there fire alarm went off because one of there soda machine shorted and it was smoking. We were able to cancel our second night thankfully. Breakfast was also sad, cereal, milk, hard boiled eggs. pancakes were alright. It seems like people live there on the regular. So just be aware of that. We moved to the Marriott down the street a little bit more pricy but worth it.

The rooms were very clean, staff was accommodating for some issues we had our first night with guests above us. The blinds they have don't block the light well so that was not enjoyable. Overall for what we needed it was a fine hotel.

Great location for a base to explore Northern LA. Clean, friendly staff. Included breakfast is fuel for the day, not culinary delights.

Amazing staff, awesome rooms!

Great facility with easy access to underground parking - ideal for downtown location with no street parking/parking lot. Sanitary seal on bathroom toilet a big plus. Staff for happy hour at next door restaurant (under separate management) were really welcoming and helpful, great food also! Hotel was further from the beach than we thought based on info provided on Expedia site.

For the price this hotel is a bargain. I don't know why there were so many bad reviews, we made sure we had a room away from the street, but that's common sense. I suppose if you get partiers in the room next door it could get noisy but what hotel isn't? The breakfast was pretty basic but then if you stayed at a high 3nd hotel that was two or three times the price, guess what? You would get no breakfast. Be happy with what you get, all of the other hotels in the areas where mostly built 70 80 years ago and have been renud but are old and creaky.

Really appreciated the kind, respectful and courteous service, the staff at The Gateway Hotel, received my Mom, Tia (aunt) and I, from the moment we walked into the front lobby. Our room was clean, organized and comfortable. Very presentable, thank you truly to The Gateway Hotel staff members.

Enjoyed my stay. They have convenient i door u dergroynd parkingClean rooms with a comfortable bed..convenient restaurant with delicious dishes. In close proximityto the Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd St. Promenade shops.
