There was a strange ticking noise in the room all night. Beds were very soft - we prefer firm. No fruit at breakfast.

We had a great stay. Although our initial room was clean and well-maintained, it lacked WiFi access. However, the front desk staff was incredibly helpful and promptly moved us to a larger room with a fantastic internet connection. We were very pleased with the service. Additionally, there was sufficient parking available at the back of the property, and the complimentary breakfast offered a good selection of continental options along with made-to-order hot food. We truly enjoyed our time there!

Very nice country hotel. Food is excellent and the staff are friendly and thoughtful.

I had been to the Black Lion three years before visiting the area my kin folks left in 1838 to come to Ohio. The accommodations and the meals were great. We went to the Welsh Library in Aberystwyth and hit the mother load of information of our ancestors in Lampter and Betws Bledrws.

It is very rare that I leave reviews for hotels, but after my experience at the Black Lion Hotel in Lampeter I felt I had to. I stayed for four nights from 16th February and returned the following week for another four nights. During both visits, I had no issues at all. On one occasion I came down for breakfast at 7:30am instead of 8:00am. The manager/chef made it clear breakfast would not be served until 8:00am which I fully accepted and simply waited without complaint. I then returned again on 22nd April for one night on arrival I was confronted by the same individual who immediately spoke to me in an aggressive and confrontational manner bringing up the previous breakfast situation and accusing me of being rude which is completely untrue. When I calmly tried to explain he became more hostile, telling me “you’re not my mate” and threatening to report me to Hotels.com and have me blacklisted. This was said in an intimidating and completely unprofessional way. This happened in front of others, including my colleague, which made it even more embarrassing and uncomfortable. Being spoken to like that without justification was completely unacceptable. It left me feeling uneasy for the rest of my stay which is not something I have ever experienced in over 25 years of staying in hotels. The behaviour I encountered was far below any reasonable standard of customer service, and I would expect much better from any hotel.

Secure parking at rear of property. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean room. The extractor in the bathroom was either not working or not efficient enough to clear the steam from the room. Also if you want me to use the excellent towels for a second day, a heated towel rail needed , or any towel rail to hang the bath towel after first use.

Food was expensive and terrible. Room only had one plug socket that worked and plumbing system is really load if any room uses water making it impossible to sleep.

Staff were pleasant, room was cold from arrival till the morning, £25 for breakfast to discover it was just cereal and toast

Room was in decent condition but being on the front of the building was quite noisy especially with the bells ringing every 15 minutes. Would have been nice if there was actually a member of staff around on check out as the whole bar and kitchen were just left wide open for anyone to help themselves to whatever they wanted

Absolutely loved my stay at The Black Lion Royal Hotel. The room and bathroom were spotless and clearly very well looked after. The people at the reception are incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The English breakfast was delicious and freshly made each morning. Plus, the hotel’s pub has such a cute, cozy vibe, perfect for a relaxing evening. Highly recommend!
