The unique thing about this property is that Gert and Marlene treat everyone as individuals and you soon feel part of the family. They have really taken on board the Mauritian way and that translates into a really relaxed vibe. Wonderful food and a great night's sleep! Highly recommend if you want an authentic experience that is a stone's throw from a paradise beach!

Very nice host and very clean property.

Host Denis was very professional, helpful, efficient and friendly. He spoke many languages French, English, German Italian. The staff were very helpful also. The room with garden view was clean, quiet and spacious. Location on main road was easy to find but not noisy. Parking opposite hotel. Restaurant service excellent with set menu or a la carte. Other restaurants and shops within walking. Trou aux Biches beach also walking distance or sit on rock wall watching sunset. The reflection of setting sun on water appears red like fire. Would definitely stay again when in Mauritius

What a wonderful discovery. La Tonnelle is run by a delightful host, Denis, who knows the island inside and out and has lots of wonderful stories and suggestions. The rooms are simple and comfortable, and the hotel is just a few steps away from one of the nicest beaches on the island. Walking distance from restaurants (though food at the hotel is great too) and supermarkets and pharmacy. Though the hotel isn't beachfront, there is a private beach club, where you can rent lounges and umbrellas for a minimal fee, is nearby, so you can still get the resort experience with out paying resort prices.

First of all, it NOT on the beach. You must exit the property and either walk across the road for a beach view ONLY (it’s the fish dock). OR walk 400-500 paces for beach access. That being said, the staff were friendly and welcoming and food was good for dinner

The room was a little small for a big guy like me. The staff was helpful and friendly. The beach is across the street, but nicer a little bit down the beach. Restaurants and bars close at hand.

Denis and Veronique were excellent hosts. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty but unvaried each day. My room was beautifully clean and recently tastefully redecorated. The only serious downside to the accomodation was the mattress was indescribablely hard (like concrete) to the point that I got a sore back and neck that was only remedied after 3 massages!

A convenient base to explore the northern part of Mauritius, especially in a rental car. The beautiful beach is just 50m away.

Close proximity to beach is great. Dinner is only at 8pm which can be a bit late especially for families with children

I had a lovely stay after a busy few weeks so enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of La Tonnelle. The room is adequate not luxurious by any means but dinner is an experience, brush up on your French, and you will enjoy the conversation. Even if you don't know much French it is still enjoyable as you sit with all the guests and fabulous food and hospitality. Lovely beach closeby to watch the sunset and paddle.

La Tonnelle is clean, well maintained and just few metres from the most beautiful beach in Mauritius, Trou aux biches. The owner is very kind and he is an excellent chef. Every evening we enjoyed his great French/Creole cuisine. Food is fresh and of the highest quality. The dinner takes place in one long and elegant table. Sitting together with the owner, his wife and all the other guests, this makes the atmosphere very friendly, sociable and enjoyble. The feeling of staying at La Tonnelle It is like when you visit a dear old friend or you have dinner with family. We asked the breakfast to be arranged at 6am and the owner had no problem with it, our last day we had the flight at 22pm and the owner had no problem to let us check out anytime we wanted so we could enjoyed the day on the beach. I recommend also the patisserie next door (also belonging to La Tonnelle) where you can enjoy tartes, macarons etc.

Le personnel est très sympathique et serviable, à l’image des Mauriciens. Toujours prêt à nous arranger et faciliter notre séjour. La proximité du club de plongée est un réel plus. Malheureusement les chambres n’ont pas dû être rénovées depuis une quinzaine d’années et il peut y avoir des odeurs d’humidité. Les photos ne reflètent pas du tout l’état de l’établissement.

Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été chaleureusement accueilli par « Jean-Noël » qui tout simplement s’est occupé de tout pendant notre séjour ( excursion, taxi , conseils….) Merci à toute l’équipe ( chefs cuisiniers)pour nous avoir régalé ( aussi bien pour le petit dej que pour les repas du soir). Nous avons passé un séjour magnifiques. Ce qui est très agréable c’est d’avoir une équipe si sympathique à votre écoute . Avec un patron « Gert « toujours présent est prêt à tout pour vous satisfaire,n’hésitez pas à réserver dans cet établissement . L’hôtel est bien situé ( arrêt de bus , en face de la mer ( simplement la route à traverser ) Nous reviendrons !! Merci

Such lovely hosts. It was like talking to morgon freeman, we could have listened to his calm natured stories all day. so very helpful for anything and everything.

Séjour parfait et très humain. On apprécie le contact, les petites attentions pour faire du séjour un vrai confort.

Agréable séjour, les repas sont copieux et très bons. Regis est très accueillant. Bonne ambiance lors des dîners. Chambres propres, lits confortables.

Personnel très sympathique et à l'écoute. Etablissement bien situé proche de la plage et des commodités, de multiples activités sont proposées dont l’excellent club de plongée Dive Spirit que je recommande pour la bonne humeur et son professionnalisme.
