Overall a good experience, but I expected more for the price based on the listing. Wanted to charge me extra for the second person even though I booked for two. I booked for the fridge in the room for my medicine and it was broken and I had to fight to get assistance.

I booked this hotel and paid in advance through Expedia, but I was charged again when I arrived the hotel. The hotel manager said the hotel had not received the fee from Expedia, and that you need to pay again. I paid for the hotel and then requested both the hotel and Expedia to investigate the payment status to clarify which side, hotel or Expedia is holding the money I overpaid. However, neither side responds to it and of course I haven’t been refunded the fee of more than £300. Isn’t this a scam? Expedia support team asked me to send a receipt from the hotel, and I sent it, but their answer was “we can’t refund the fee” without telling any reason or the investigation status. I will never use Expedia nor the hotel.

Within the hotel complex, hard to get around. The hotel is going through renovation. Some rooms are better than the other. Not much shopping in the surrounding area. For a place to crash, the value is there.

The hotel is fine and is within walking distance of the city center. The two biggest problems are the wifi and mosquitoes in the rooms. Every day I found at least 3 mosquitoes in my room. The WiFi is slow and unreliable. Still, overall it's a decent hotel in Blantyre with large rooms and decent service.

Very friendly staff. The room was very nice and well designed. There was also a very good view out of my window. I only had breakfast here, but it was pretty good. You're near a mall with a few fast food restaurants and walking distance to some more up market restaurants.

Nice, comfortable rooms. The staff were friendly and accommodative when I requested a late check-out. Also ample and secure car park.

The Malawi Sun is an old hotel and this can be seen in the furnishings as well as the hotel structure and fittings. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The TV channels and WiFi were more than adequate. The bathroom and shower were clean, and there was sufficient hot water. The condition of the restruant was not great, very old and a little grubby. Evening meal selections at the resturant were good, and there is a wide variety of dishes to chose from, although there is bais towards Chinese cuisine. Breakast was not good. It is quite a drive to and from the airport, road conditions and load shedding power outages in the evenings are challenging, i would not recomend hiring a car and driving yourself around, a taxi service is needed. If you flying out in the morning be sure to leave early, as the traffic is very bad.

Nothing great to share. It could be better with the compared value with other hotels. Bathroom shower cap was broken water splashing all over places while taking shower.

This was not the hotel I usually stay in while in Blantyre, but it is less expensive, so I thought I would give it a try. I likely will try a lesser expensive Blantyre hotel again, but not this one. It looks nothing like its pictures. The pictures show all rooms looking out over the hillside with great views, which is the reason I picked it. They have done a lot of new construction. Now most rooms generally look across to other rooms. At check in, they tried to give me a room which had not been made up since the previous guest. One maid in particular was really rude and inappropriate - entering my room without knocking, once yelling "hey, where are you going?" Electricity was off for several hours of my short stay. Wifi barely worked. There were 10 somewhat fuzzy cable stations on the TV - no news channel. The water in the pool was green with some kind of white scum across the top. No one in it, obviously. Construction everywhere. Had trouble finding my reservation. Poorest breakfast I had in Malawi. Only white bread. Toast is a special request. Only instant coffee served in a coffee growing country. No business services whatsoever. Guess that covers it. I'll pick somewhere else next time.

4 night stay with descent breakfast. No alcohol on premise but short walk to fantastic restaurants, in particular, the 21 Grill.

Value for money compared to other big hotels nearby, and can walk there even in the evening for a dinner or so. Breakfast quite basic and sometimes horribly crowded.due to conferences. No mosquito nets but all kind of repellents available, no problems at all. Has 24 h power back-up that is very import in Malawi.

Perfectly comfortable and well-meaning staff. Needs a little more polish before competing before Protea. Can't recommend the restaurant for dinner.
