This is a unique experience - lots of art, flowers, gardens, birds, monkeys and water in a very rural setting, just off the Entebbe - Kampala road. Janet, the owner with her husband Andreas, runs a tight ship, and service is very good. Thanks!

My 4 sons and I looked for a place to stay for our weekend experience in Entebbe to visit the Ngambe Island sanctuary. Malakai was more than a place to stay it was itself an experience that my sons and I will never forget, from the family cottage, the environment, the pool, the restaurant and the staff. Beautiful very original place lovingly cared for and serviced by family owners. We’ve already picked our next cottage for our next stay in Entebbe

Our group of 5 arrived around 1 a.m. due to dealing with lost luggage claims at the airport. Although our arrival was 3 hours later than expected, the staff was gracious and accommodating with smiling faces. Breakfast was bountiful and delicious - and without cost. We wished we could have stayed longer!

When I fly out of Entebbe, I make a point of sleeping in Entebbe the night before, in order to avoid the horrible traffic jams on Entebbe Road. My usual hotel was not available. I found Malakai Eco lodge, which had good reviews and looked intriguing. As we followed the signs for the Lodge off of Entebbe Road, my friends and I grew increasingly alarmed. The "road" was a narrow dirt trail that wound through small African houses. When we finally arrived, however, we found a large compound and a tropical wonderland. We were thoroughly enchanted and wished we had arrived earlier in the day so we could enjoy it more (our flight was early in the morning.) After supper, we all retired early and discovered the place's drawback - an unbelievably loud cacophony of frogs. I was in a treehouse, and got a double dose - the pond frogs and the tree frogs. I was in the tree with them. I had to wear my sound-attenuating headphones to get to sleep. They stop around midnight, fortunately.

Malakai is truly an oasis in the bustling metropolis of Kampala/Entebbe. Stay here if you're looking for a peaceful, natural environment with some really unique and artistic architecture. Every room has a different theme -- I would highly recommend the "Pebble Room," it was our favorite. Although there is no air-conditioning, it's significantly cooler than surrounding areas due to it's location near water. The monkeys come out every evening to swing through the trees and eat bananas while you sip on a cold beer or have a bite to eat. You can swim in the pool, use the fitness center, play on the slackline or take a tour of a local island with the owner. Or you can just settle into one of the many cosy perches on the property and read a good book. The whole place has sort of an eco-African-Alice-in-Wonderland vibe to it. I would give this place two thumbs up for both hospitality and value.

Really lovely place, with excellent, friendly staff. The room (with a balcony overlooking a pond) was way cool - I'd recommend it to anyone. Pretty unforgettable room, really - reminded me of a place where Robinson Crusoe or Tarzan might live... (Small points: 1. On the evening that I left Uganda, I experienced diarrhoea - lasting for several days. The only food or drink that I had that day was breakfast at the hotel, including uncooked salad-type food like tomatoes and avocados, and lunch on Ethiopian Airlines. Impossible to say where I got the bug from, but, as a precaution, on my next trip I'll stay away from uncooked food/salads anywhere on my travels. 2. The hotel receptionists understated the travelling time by car from the hotel to Kampala. They said up to 30 mins in heavy traffic, so I booked the hotel, figuring this was an acceptable trade-off to get an exceptional room - I took 1.5 hours on a Friday morning and was late for a business meeting. Still, the driver was very helpful and did his best to help me get to my destination - maybe I just had bad luck that day...)

Interesting place I have to say, built on a swamp and Greatly engineered into a complete functional resort with many amenities, owner and his family lives there too (Great Guy!) Only problem its abit out of the way, and the road to it is abit rough getting there.

I decided to take a short break at the end of a month in Uganda and chose Malakai Eco Lodge based on price and their free shuttle to the airport. I actually upgraded my room choice on arrival because the economy room that I booked was pretty basic. For a nominal extra charge I had a very spacious villa instead. The staff was very nice. Food was good in the restaurant. There's no local choices to go outside the hotel for meals. Though the place is really buried in the middle of a local neighborhood, it was secure and a veritable oasis.

Spent the last night of my vacation here after a Gorilla tracking safari. Driver had a bit of trouble finding the hotel. There are signs starting at the Entebbe-Kampala road that lead you down small dirt tracks through pretty meager local housing to the east of the road. Once your get to the hotel, it's marvelous! A beautiful tropical oasis. Each room is unique. Mine was beautiful. I was in the family suite with 4 poster bed, bed netting, sitting area, bathroom area, and a loft with another queen size bed. Beautiful hardwood floors, ice cold welcome glass of juice, bottled water, jacuzzi tub. Windows all around that open to the breeze. Landscaping is wonderful with ponds, a sand play area, an outside fire area, and various gazebos. Restaurant was delicious. Wish I had more time to spend there!

It's located about 40 min drive from EBB airport and it's in a residential area. The place could be noisy in weekend. The food is good but quite pricey.

A unique oasis down a rugged road. Fascinating decor - different in every villa. Our only issue was no wifi in the rooms and my room was not secure from mosquitos and potential intruders. The staff were very friendly.

This is a really unique hideaway with great food and comfortable rooms. I stayed in the treehouse which was very memorable, even if a bit different from most hotel rooms. They have set up nice little paradise away from the hectic Entebbe rode, with good service and food. Only challange was the wifi which didn't work in the main hall as they had said but behalf that was due to issues with my phone and computer. This a great getaway hotel, but not ideal for work travel due to lack of desks and internet in the room. I hope to return in the future on vacation.

We were greeted by lodge staff at the airport on our arrival who were most corteous and helpful! We had a 40 min drive to the lodge where we were greeted with fresh fruit juice on arrival. Our room was immaculately decorated in African style and was very impressive. The dinner here was delicious however we could not have breakfast because we were apparently departing the lodge too early at 6.30am. The ambience of the lodge is very nice and the staff were very attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Tucked away. Very unusual place but beautiful. Amazing birds, beautiful scenery, nice food and the eco lodge was amazing. It couldn't be totally clean as it has open sections and birds and insects can fly in (so if you hate bugs, not a good option or if nature noise bothers you at night) but a fun experience. Our children loved the ponds, fish, and toys and we all enjoyed in the pool. About 30mins from Entebbe airport.
