The place was lovely and the warmth and hospitality of the owners is top tier. We went there straight from the airport, no kombini, no one is in sight while walking from the train station to the ryokan, haven't eaten yet and were thinking if they are still open since we arrived late (11PM). The exterior of the house is a sight and it's a traditional ryokan through and through. Once in our room, the female owner gave us welcome snacks and drinks. There is a free 2L water, 2 bottles of green tea, yukata to use while in the premises, etc. You can slightly hear the noises outside your room but that should be expected considering the materials of the ryokan. Walking distance from the station and the boat tour punting station. Also, do not think twice toask them to prepare breakfast for you. It's a breakfast fit for a king which will probably cost twice or thrice outside. It' not a hotel type of stay, but more of a bed and breakfast type where you interact with them while you're in the common area. They also recommend places to go to in the area and offer calligraphy experience. Definitely worth recommending and going back to, but would love to stay longer next time. Book this ryokan if you stay in Yanagawa.
