Very welcoming friendly hotel. Great breakfast. If we stayed again I would upgrade to a sea view room as they were considerably bigger than the standard double we had.

Staff were really nice! The window in our room was too high, can’t really see what’s outside. The room felt very small because of how the windows were positioned.

The room was large and the bed was comfortable . But on a cold night the room was cold and the bathroom was freezing as the window didn’t fit properly. The shower over the bathtub was pretty basic. While I had called ahead to make sure we could have dinner at 8 pm as we were coming off the ferry from the Scillys we found that the chef had left at 6 pm, we were not advised and no other arrangements had been made. As compensation I was offered free parking.

The check in process was a little strange, one person on the phone quite a bit in a room off to the side, who knew you were supposed to go in there? He had two other people in there so we had to wait about 15 minutes. Then we went in and it was all of 30 seconds, here's your key, go up the stairs, see you later! No information given. One day we asked about the buses and how to take them (we are from Canada) and the girl at the desk said she had no idea, she never took the bus. End of that story too. So we didn't find them overly friendly or helpful at this hotel. The room was nice with a fantastic view. Took a while to get anything you asked for, e.g. towels. Everything is quite old but for the price you get what you pay for. Good location to town and the bus route. Food was very good at breakfast, you could have their buffet or choose from a menu. Again, no one tells you that you kind of figure it out watching others. I would return as I said the location was good, the view was amazing and food was pretty good at breakfast lunch and dinner/

Good overnight stay. Check in was good and they let us check-in early. Room comfort also good. Good selection at breakfast. Hotel bar was closed at 9.30pm on a Saturday. We were too late to book for the hotel parking but parked in the car park opposite £3.70 for 24hrs

Great location with friendly staff. The room was designated as a small double and it certainly was small. We had tea/ coffee in the room but no Kettle!!

Breakfast and the staff serving it were excellent otherwise pretty mediocre. Room was tiny and looked like it had been furnished by charity shop items. Carpet hadn't been hoovered before we arrived and room wasn't serviced on 2nd day of a 2 night stay which seemed odd for a so-called 4 star hotel. Pillows weren't good and had odd pillowcases and cushions on bed were cheap and flat. Bathroom floor tiles were stained. Price must be based on having a sea view.

We were given a room in a separate building next door, behind a Thai restaurant. Room was small, poorly decorated. Shelves made of cheap kitchen unit materials. Tiny windows, more like ventilators. No AC in room. There was no clear mention of staying in a different building when booking. Breakfast was good.

I was in the UK for about a month and this was the best hotel that I stayed at. The room had a queen-sized bed and even had a small sitting area to watch the promenade. My booking included breakfast and it was very nice as it was a full breakfast. If down in the Penzance area again I would definitely book again.

On arrival there was no one at reception to greet guests. This led to a very confusing 5+ minutes waiting in the lobby. The bedroom and bathroom were dirty. There was dust and hair all over the floor, potentially from an animal. Although they reassured me no pets are permitted in the hotel. They clearly had some electrical work done recently as there was a loose light fitting left in the room on arrival which was swiftly removed, but there was still debris all over the bathroom where the work took place. I was then moved to a new room upon request. When entering the 2nd room I noticed the bedding was dirty which again was changed on request. Similar to the first room there was building debris in the bathroom behind the sink and on the shower tray. This whole scenario added 40 minutes to my checking-in. The pictures used to advertise the classic (cosy) double is a misleading representation of what you actually get. Using kitchen worktops as headboards, shelving and vanity unit/desk, which they fail to show in any of the pictures on their website or hotels.com of the room types. The breakfast was excellent. Fantastic friendly service from the ladies. Avocado on sourdough toast with poached egg, would be my recommendation.

The Beach Club was not mis-sold for location - it was right by the beach and offered great views of the Penzance coastline. Everything else wasn’t quite as billed. Communal areas looked the part, but our bedroom was showing signs of wear and tear. (Door hooks hanging off and marks on the coverlet.) We’d booked a room for three, but were told to squeeze into a double bed. Eventually the hotel relented and added an extra bed, but it was a struggle. The car park was impossible to squeeze into. It took two attempts to get the parking charges removed. Breakfast was a fiasco, with everyone apparently booked into the same time slot and a temperamental coffee machine that couldn’t handle more than one customer every ten minutes. Each time we went to reception for help, there seemed to be a long wait while staff dealt with other disgruntled customers. There were some friendly and accommodating staff in the dining room. They seemed to have their work cut out for them. We made the most of our stay, but it wasn’t the most relaxing of experiences.

The Beach Club is an old gem situated near the end of the Promenade as you head out toward Newlyn. It has a lot of charm, is easily accessible to the beach, and the food in the hotel's restaurant was surprisingly good. (The buttersquash soup was my particular favorite). The staff was friendly and accommodating. Special thanks to Ashama -- we belatedly had to book an extra night's stay, and she figured out a way that we didn't have to change rooms, for which my husband and I were very grateful. Our room was cozy (some might say "small") and there are no elevators so you have to climb stairs to get to any of the guest rooms. But after a day of walking around Penzance and West Cornwall, what's a few more steps? We had a lovely week there.
