The balcony view of the lake and promenade was outstanding! The hotel is easily accessible from the Lugano train station - a short 3 minute walk from the Funicular that goes down from the Lugano train station. (Wish we had known that when we arrived 😉) Ask the hotel for the Ticino pass and it allows you to use the Funicular and buses for free. The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast was very nice! We enjoyed our stay in Lugano!

The Walter Hotel is the Perfect Hotel!! You cannot beat the location ! Just a few minutes from the furnucular, taxi stop and cross walk in front of the hotel entrance. Outstanding Spaghetti Store restaurant next door. I got lucky when I found this hotel!!

Great view and clean

Room was large and airy, view from small balcony was beautiful over the lake, worth the extra for a room with a view. We used the free Ticino card the hotel give, to take the funicular up to Mount Bré. Breakfast was pleasant although coffee was not very nice. Not sure why there were peas & carrots on offer at breakfast never seen this before is it a Swiss thing?? Bar underneath the hotel was good. Unfortunately we had rain so didn’t go to the sundeck.

The quirkiness of this old building is fantastic and although it was a very small room it served its purpose. The only reason for just four stars is the AC will not go lower than 22 Celsius which is not suitable for sleeping. Luckily you can open a window but then you have noise and smoking scent from outside. My room had neighboring balconies very close to the window (which could not be locked in a non-entry position).

This hotel was a one night stay for us between Switzerland and Lake Como after a day on the panoramic train. What a treat!!

Good hotel on the lake

This was a perfect location for our family. The boat that the transport around the lake was in front of hotel. Winter market and restaurants close by and varied. The hotel itself and our room was well designed for our family vacation. The hotel breakfast was great. I suggest that you stay at this hotel on your holiday. Thank you Walter au Lac

Beautiful view of water out our deck! Wish we could’ve stayed longer! We loved Lugano and this hotel-very walkable to restaurants.

Very helpful staff, excellent location with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and transit.

Simple hotel but the only thing I didn’t like was no valet parking and the lots were not nearby

Premium room with Balcony. Great location and views, but that’s about all. Nice enough B&B (not really a hotel). £250 per night would be £80 if not for view. 2 sleepless nights due to basic bedding…. slatted bed frame with a 10cm mattress which was harder than the floor. Style but no substance sadly. Other than a coffee machine in room, I could see no Premium additions?

Great location, not far from train station and within main Lugano attractions. Historic hotel, size of rooms convenient and high ceilings, great views of Lake Lugano. Generally clean room apart from cobweb/dust on ceiling light - not entirely soundproofed: can hear bathrooms from rooms next door and sounds from kitchen via air vents in bathroom. Good breakfast selection - no restaurant onsite but within area offering many options for meals. Helpful and friendly staff.

Condition of this hotel is terrible. Don’t stay there.

Got lake view room and the view is beautiful. lots of restaurants nearby. Boat dock is just cross the street. Shopping area and cable list to train station is also very close. Room is clean and in good size.

Fantastic, family run hotel that really understands customer service. Everything was perfect: the hotel is very charming, the location is amazing, the rooms are clean, airy, comfy, the breakfast is varied, delicious, the staff (concierges Laura, Elizabetta) is nice, polite, and accomodating. We had a great stay at Walter Au Lac and would recommend it to other travelers, Lugano guests! 😊
