Clean and practical, surroundings are lovely and building architecture. Appreciated the upgraded room. Shower needs to be warmer and more powerful. Checkout time could be better. Some of the bedding is a little worn as well but on the whole a pleasant stay.

Lovely building with great walks on the doorstep. Shower room could have been cleaner and some bits better maintained but overall as expected for a hostel. Would stay again

What a stunning building! And the surrounding grounds are gorgeous - it feels like such a quiet and idyllic bolthole retreat tucked away in the heart of Hope Valley. Facilities are superb, everything is clean and well appointed and the staff are all so friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful stay and cannot wait to return!

Although some rooms might need a bit of renovation, the YHA is great value for money and ideal for activities in the area.

Great location within walking distance to Castleton . The bunk bed was comfortable but a bit on the noisy side when you turn over . We had the option for breakfast and it was cooked very well and tasty .

Room was mucky, cobwebs, dirt on the floor. Staff took ages signing us in, did not give breakfast times, came down 9:15 too late for breakfast. For £110 a room, I was very disappointed and also the pipes or something were so loud throughout the night so very little sleep.

The hostel was nothing like in the description! The beds was uncomfortable, spiders all over in the room. The receptionist ask to strip the bed before we leaving. We have booked a bedroom for 2 persons. When we arrived the receptionist told us we can’t get the bedroom we booked for because a school trip going on in the hostel so we need the stay in another building next to the hostel which was totally separated, that building was empty, no other guest or anyone so we was really scared with my sister plus they wanted to charge us 10£ extra because of the bigger room what we didn’t book for. The receptionist said there will be kitchen open to buy dinner so we decided with my sister to go and get some dinner but when we went the receptionist said unfortunately there isn’t any food just only pizza which is small size and was costing over £10. He said to us if we not happy we can go to the Castleton village which is 20 min walk to get something to eat. We had to walk from the hostel to the main gate which takes about 12min in total in the middle of the “park” (because the hostel is in the middle of a private park) without any light. There is no light or anything so in the darkness we had to turn on the flashlight on the phone for we can at least see the way after all this we walked like about other 10 min till the village next to the main road there was one side only fields and other side kind of small forest. It wasn’t a great experience at all specially only 2 girls alone.

Really great location for hiking and Castleton is beautiful. However the walls in the hostel are paper-thin, and we were placed in a room next to a family. We were awoken every morning at 6 am throughout our entire stay.

The youth hostel is in amazing grounds and some of the public areas are very regal (like the lounge with leather sofas). The staff were welcoming and helpful. Of course, you don't expect luxury in youth hostels, but when you are paying £98 a night with no breakfast, then something is not right with the pricing. The ensuite bunk bed we had was in real need of redecoration and there was just tepid water in the tiny plastic shower room. Honestly, that would be fine, as this is what you expect of a sector catering to young people who might not have a lot of money. But if you are older and can afford nearly £100 a night, I would advise going to a nearby hotel in Castleton instead.

Don't expect any chance of checking in earlier than 5pm - reception is shut (literally, shutters down). Reception staff ignored me as I waited 15 minutes before. The male member of staff who checked me in was bizarre, condersending. No evening meal option as they weren't offering it. No notification of this prior to arrival. Room ok, basic. Comfortable bed.
