I went here to stay while I was going to see Elton John in Lucca. When I arrived, I was given a personal tour of the grounds... pure Tuscan living! When I went to go to the pool, I found myself in the kitchen, and was introduced to other guests staying there and was offered a seat during lunch...pool was too inviting. What’s nice is that it feels like a home, guest gathered in a parlor or in the kitchen and sat around and talked... a lovely experience. Would stay here again.

We were there during off season so the whole place was empty and under repair, including the wifi which did not work in our room. The manager was nice enough to reserve a restaurant in Lucca which was handy and they had a cold breakfast ready for us when we left early.

Villa Michaela is an authentic Italian villa capturing old world feel - very comfortable and spacious room / living areas. Beautiful grounds and very quiet and relaxing. Camilla was great in organising activities/ restaurants to go to. I didn't have a car so taxis could be expensive - but overall thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Would be fabulous to enjoy the Villa with groups of friends/family - the dinner parties would be incredible!

We reserved a room with ensuite containing deep soaking bath and separate shower, this was not the case. We had a shower over the bath with a brick floor, which was not clean. No change of towels in 4 days stay. Room details, as advertised, were incorrect as no coffee or tea maker, no fridge, no tv. Room not too clean, very dusty. There was no restaurant service, only breakfast. We were offered another room on 3rd floor within the roof with small windows on arrival, but we dismissed this as it looked very dark and dusty. Swimming pool and gardens were totally neglected. Villa had lots of lovely furniture, paintings, but appeared to be neglected like the gardens. The owners ran a cookery school but we felt like second class citizens as they were very involved with the school. My husband has asthma and the dust and mould upset his breathing. We have booked many rooms with hotels.com and relied on the description, which was totally incorrect, maybe hotels should check. We really had a problem trying to find the address as we were given the area in the information, not the village.

We arrived a this special place to be greeted as if we were the "lords of the manor". Located about a 20 minute drive outside of Lucca, in the beautiful hills of Tuscany, the Villa Michaela is an extraordinary experience. It's like living in someone's private Villa. Right outside of our bedroom door, we had the use of an elegant sitting room, complete with grand piano. The surrounding gardens were rich with the perfume of jasmine that sent their fragrance into our bedroom windows as we slept. Stepping outdoors in the morning we were able to hike up into the hills and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. Breakfast was a special event every morning, offering freshly squeezed orange juice and all manner of fresh fruit, meats, cheese, outstanding fresh bread and jams. Eggs were prepared by order. All in all, the staff, headed up by Celine, Lucie, Gavin and Mira bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable and unforgettable. I highly recommend this property as an alternative to staying in the city of Lucca.

this is a rustic old home and has some of the problems that accompany that. The host was very accommodating, but they should look at some up keep to furniture and fixtures to justify what people expect for the price. We were there early in the season at the end of April and the room was quite musty, so we had to sleep with the windows open. If you have any breathing issues you may want to reconsider.

The Villa Michaela feels much more like a private vacation residence than a true hotel, at least by our experience. The property is beautiful, and the rooms are comfortable and full of character; however if you're looking for a luxurious five star service experience, this would not come to mind. If you're looking for a quiet, unique Tuscan getaway, this is a wonderful fit. I would stay again in a heartbeat, but I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the unusual nature of the stay. It is an uncommon but beautiful sort of hotel.

Sense "Under the Tuscan Sun" coupled with "Out of Africa"--this lovingly restored grand villa is an antidote to those overwhelmed with the neurotic details of everyday civilization. It is a combination of romance and the resplendent beauty of nature nestled in the privacy of the Tuscan hills yet in close proximity to all must-sees. Awake to soft church bells and a welcoming family staff interested in providing your every need. If you want a modern high-tech hotel, this is for you, stay in New York or San Francisco. But if you want to indulge all your senses and your soul in a grand villa reminiscent of the Tuscan nobility of days gone by yet with all the modern conveniences, look no further--you won't be disappointed. I am already planning my next trip back very soon.

My husband and I traveled to Italy for our honeymoon. We visited several parts of the country and stayed in different hotels. One of our favorites was Villa Michaela! I was in shock with the immensity of the villa and the elaborate decorations. I felt like royalty staying there. My mouth dropped when I saw the enormous dinning room with a long table that fits 40 plus. The paintings on the walls, the chandeliers, the furniture and the whole property was spectacular! It is a great place to visit as a couple but even better with a group. David was very hospitable. He helped orient us, he had breakfast ready for us every morning, he talked to us a lot about the villa and the town. He even showed us around town a bit and pointed out specific points of interest. Overall, we had a wonderful time! I would recommend getting to the villa during the day time. It gets tricky to find it at night.
