Staff were very friendly and helpful. Not the ideal place if you have lots of luggage, no elevator and lots of very narrow stairs. Overall a nice place for a short period of time, food was good

The doors all creaked and slammed from 6am. There was no hot water so I didnt even have a shower in the morning. Not good enough!

Had a long wait for someone to come to reception. And room not ready till 6pm. Then unable to use as they used strong bleach and it was so bad it burnt your eyes and you couldn’t go in. So then had to wait again for another room.

Staff were nice, breakfast each morning was self-service, which is great, but more of; once it's gone, it's gone, very slow to replenish the items... The garden needs to be tidied as it's overgrown.

The breakfast was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great walking distance to all shops and restaurants (Bills was excellent!). Easy parking with a big lot. Spacious, clean rooms. Only issue was the electrical couldn’t support our adapters.

I have stayed in The Chequers several times while visiting family. This time for 6 days.The staff are great. They have always accommodated an early check in which is highly appreciated. The room is serviced daily. The location in Newbury town is excellent for local restaurants etc. Adequate car parking.

The place was tawdry, the room, especially the en suite, was dirty, dusty and I had to unblock the toilet after use. The extract system had failed before we got there. I didn’t report any of this as I was there to go to a funeral. The fire alarm seemed to have mind of its own, going off spuriously for no apparent reason! Cooked breakfast was barely warm and I was kept waiting for toast. The morning alarm was from a refrigerated food delivery van, beautifully positioned outside our accommodation.

The whole hotel is in a poor condition and extremely tired, with one room having water coming through the ceiling while the room above was using the shower and another had parches of damp that had been painted over. Very basic rooms and basic food. Certainly wouldn’t recommend or go back

If you make a booking for more than night & cancel on the date of arrival, you will be charged for the whole duration of the booking & NOT for just the first night. i.e. if you book for 5 nights, you will be charged for the whole 5 nights.

Very nice overnight stay. Comfortable accommodation. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely evening meal

Water could have been warmer in the shower

This hotel has free parking and is conveniently located in the centre of Newbury. Nice sized rooms with full bath. Clean with comfy bed.

Ideal location close to town , short walk from station.£8.50 for breakfast

Convenient, a bit tired but clean, no lift and room was on 2nd floor so stairs not ideal, but overall happy
