We had a great stay! The hotel was clean, the breakfast was great and the rooftop pool was an additional plus to just wind down and take a dip after walking around and site seeing all day. The hotel was in a very convenient location. Highly recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Funchal!

Clean and convenient location

Everything was great

We stayed only for 1 night but really great location to walk around Funchal. Rooms are large for Europe and quite comfortable. Minifridge and welcome chocolates quite nice. The only thing I would note is that there are very few chairs in the rooftop bar/pool area so almost impossible to find a spot. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Would stay here again for sure.

We loved our stay at Barceló. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool was a great place to spend a couple hours in the afternoon. The only thing that could have made our stay better would be to have parking closer but the walk wasn’t bad at all. Great breakfast too!

Beautiful and central. Very attentive staff, great room service options. Roof top pool with amazing views is our favorite part of this hotel.

We loved our stay at the Barcelo. The room was very clean. The king sized bed was very comfortable as was the sofa bed which our daughter slept on. There was plenty of room in our room which was the standard basic room for 3 people. We loved the shower as well. The breakfasts were amazing and we really liked how the hotel opened up onto the main street where you could dine. The rooftop had amazing views and the decor and service was fantastic. A couple of times the water bottle wasn’t replenished (1 bottle is free per night) but when calling reception, they quickly gave us one. We would like to come back and recommend the Barcelo which is also located perfectly for visiting Funchel. The staff were very nice as well.

This was a great choice. The entire property was clean, close to everything, excellent breakfast and staff. It has a beautiful roof top pool and bar with an amazing view of the island. We highly recommend it.

What kills this hotel is WiFi barely works no doorman or help with luggage , minor but lame they don’t take Amex which is fine but you can reserve the room with Amex ???? Is this an international brand? Also when attempting to charge a drink at the pool on the Terrace I was told I can’t charge it to the room unless the front desk gives permission ? And the took a 200€ hold when I checked in …. Lame point 3 = Fail nice place but these are basic amenities at €350 a night ….

I stayed at Barcelo for 4 nights with my friend in a junior suite. The room/bathroom was nice and clean upon arrival and the room was a good size for two people. Breakfast was included and it was great. It included lots of fresh fruit, fresh made omelettes with all the standard accompaniments and a nice assortment of pastries as well fresh juices, coffee and tea. Staff was very friendly and polite upon check-in and throughout the stay. The location was great as it was walking distance from many of the restaurants we went to and very close to the main road along the waterfront. My only complaint is the housekeeping. Upon arrival there were no pool towels in our room. There were multiple days where there were dirty dishes left in the room and we were not given clean drinking glasses. Also there were multiple days where they did not top up the bottled water.

A good central location in the old town. Breakfast was amazing and we enjoyed the rooftop terrace. Rooms were well designed. However, the hotel isn't as fancy as other 5 star resorts in the Funchal! Pool is much smaller than the pictures make it look.

Great stay right downtown. This hotel did a great job acknowledging a special stay and making us feel welcome. Location could not be better for walking to most anything downtown, rooms and products nice, and breakfast was exceptional. Cons- parking is so confusing. They have no parking at hotel or really nearby with no directions before checking in to get to parking garages. Closest was 10 minute walk in mall parking garage. Hotel is surrounded by one ways and blocked off streets that make it even harder. Also rooms on the backside (away from water) have zero views. Looking right into a gross building covered in pigeon poop. The alley below start moving and shaking at about 6:30am and can be heard very loud in room, even on 3rd floor.

Excellent location, extremely friendly front desk staff, clean and functional rooms and facilities. Don't count on roof-top swimming pool if you plan to actually swim.

Great hotel in Funchal, Madeira. Location, restaurants, rooftop pool (very busy) has great views.
