About Sentosa Island

Formerly known as Pulau Belakang Mati, Sentosa Island has been used once as a military base for British soldiers and Japanese prisoner of war camps. It had gone through a transformation in the 1970s when the Singapore government had the initiative to develop this 4.71 square kilometre island. In September 1970, Singapore officially changed the name of the island from Pulau Belakang Mati to Sentosa Island, which has the meaning of an island of peace and calm.
