All was well

good

First when driving into the property the front parking lot has huge potholes all over. Then when we walked into the lobby there was no staff there and we had to wait 5 minutes until he came back to the desk. He was cordial, but not friendly, when checking us in. When we got to our room there was a foul odor in the room and a big wet dirty stain in front of the mirror. I did not feel comfort at all staying in this room. After 15 minutes we checked out and left.

Clean property very close to Umass Amherst. Close to road but did not hear any noise inside the property

Check in took longer than expected. Television didn’t even receive basic networks. Vending machine didn’t work. No change available at front desk. Front desk staff apologized, but said there was nothing they could do. There seemed to be only one person on duty.

Was kind of nervous since the outside of the hotel looked sketchy and old however it was surprisingly decent. The free breakfast was delicious, the staff was nice and helpful, the room was clean. Will definitely stay here again next time I’m in the area.

We arrived with no rooms available except for 1 with no heat. It is 30 Degrees outside and they gave us extra blankets. Spoke to manager on the phone and he said to contact Expedia in the am to request a refund and he would approve the refund. How do I request the refund through you tomorrow ?

Place was old and a bit run down. Staff was friendly. Clean. Would I come.back? No…for the price , not worth it!!! Sorry to say there are much better options in thexare

Beautiful seemed new facility. The staff member who checked us in was extremely courteous friendly and helpful.

I have stayed at this hotel two or three times before and the rooms have always been pretty clean. However, this time the hotel was fully booked and I think we got the last two rooms in the whole hotel. The first room we went into had no electricity except in the bathroom. The outlets didn’t work and the lights didn’t work so they moved us to another room next-door. That room had stains on the bathroom floor and dirty marks on the walls in the bathroom. It was pretty gross. The beds and the sheets seemed clean, but the walls were dirty. The shower drain gurgled when we flushed the toilet and the shower head didn’t have a full spray coming out. It was pretty disappointing

Just stayed for one night in town for a college event. The room was clean but very worn. Sink had rusted hole in it. Lamp shade was busted. Worst of all was the very noisy hvac unit. On or off made no difference. It sounded like a loud wind storm being strangled. Miserable. The breakfast was fine. About what was expected. The service was okay. Check out and check in were fine but when I mentioned the hvac unit the lady behind the counter showed little interest. Oh well. I can’t remember the last time I stayed in a HoJos but nice to see that not much has changed over the years. If I’m back in town I will look elsewhere.

The property is very old and has not been maintained properly. The sinks had rusty edges,there was no grill on the sink so things could fall right into the pipe. It was very noisy both from the outside and other rooms. The locks didn't work properly and needed multiple attempts before they worked. It certainly was not a Wyndham quality property. There was breakfast but it was very sparse and the food quality was average. The room was not cleaned overnight. Definitely not worth the $199 that I was charged.

Nice and clean

faucets in tub leaked; cold fauct in sink hard to shut off...turned beyond "hot" to "cold". Window shut permanently so no fresh air. Room overheated even when motor shut off on airconditioner; room door did not shut. Everything was old, in need of upgrade. This hotel needs investment. I have stayed here over the years and it continues to go down in terms of maintenance. Pool will not open this season (again). Quite frankly, the pool was the beacon that brought me back in the spring and summer. I will only return if all other hotels in the Amherst area are full.

Howard Johnson's is a reliable place to stay when I visit Amherst. It's clean, comfortable, affordable and conveniently located. Nothing posh or fancy about it, but it serves its purpose well. Mini fridge in room is a nice plus. Would be nice if they had in-room microwaves.

Check-in took 20 minutes. They didn't have the king-bed room that I had booked. It took 20 mins to find a room with Queen beds. Then I go up to the room with my bags and the key doesn't work. Had to come down to get the key reprogrammed. No hot water in the showers. I ended up taking a cold shower in the middle of winter. When I informed the front desk, the best they could do was 'make a note it'. The minute you enter the hotel the smell hits you. Worn old carpeting everyhere. Stains on the carpet in the room, curtains that don't close fully leaving the room bright all night long.
