For the price in China, this hotel was not worth it. A water bed? Also, the shower did not properly work and the front desk staff was pretty unhelpful. Wouldn't have expected anything too fancy, but for 20-30$, you could easily find similar accommodation in Qingdao.

I always return to this hotel. It is truly a unique experience. Every room is different. The staff is friendly and there is always someone that speaks English. The facility is getting a little bit old, but it is very well maintained. There are many excellent restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. The buffet breakfast is one of the best that I have seen in China.

We read a mixed set of reviews expecting it to be beautiful but musty, but instead were treated to a lovely and creatively designed room, very clean furnishings and lovely staff! We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay of three nights here, it's in a safe and good district, and the hotel itself has a very pleasant atmosphere. Sometimes the amenities were not completely well furbished, but we only had to notify the staff and they very quickly and courteously helped us out.

Location is great and hotel has lots of character. Service at the front desk is nice and helpful. But their cleaning staff needs more training - details in room not cleaned well and they tried to say I used one of their lotions which I definitely did not. If you get room on the first floor, ask for a dehumidifier which helps a lot. Overall, for price and location and character I would still recommend!

The hotel is interesting, but the room was small and the air conditioning did not cool the room. The bed had only a comforter and no sheet. Checking in was a bit difficult, since there were no English speaking staff, and minor/irrelevant issues seemed to be exaggerated. In the end, everything worked out OK, but it seemed more difficult than most other hotels that we used.

This is a very unusual hotel. Almost every room is different, and the hotel is decorated and furnished in traditional Chinese style. It has a much more intimate, friendly feel than the major hotels. The service is excellent, and there is usually someone that speaks English. They have a breakfast that is about the best I ever saw in China. There is a great variety of Chinese and western breakfast food. The location is good, with many restaurants in the area. It is about a 1 km walk to the ocean near the Qingdao Sailing Center, site of the 2008 Olympic sailing events. It is easy to get a taxi by walking out to Minjiang Road. Don't be confused by the hotel address which is Minjiang 3 Road. I have stayed in this hotel six times on trips to Qingdao, and I am very satisfied.

Extremely nice staff. Most didn't know English well but a few did and went out of their way to help me. The room and hotel looks awesome and location is pretty good!

Although the exterior is a little plain, the hotel is lovely inside, with many beautiful art objects. The staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Someone is always around who speaks adequate English. The hotel is within walking distance of the bus line and Western restaurants. The breakfast is very Asian, so not everybody will want to buy it. The only caution I have is that my room was VERY small, with no view at all (more hotel rooms faced my window). It was fine for me, a single traveler, but even a couple, I think, would need more space. I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent. Most of Chinese hotels which face streets are very noisy. This hotel is located in the complex. One complaint is that a front pond smell fish.

The Laozhuancun China Community Art and Culture Hotel is like a Contemporary Arts Gallery and the restaurant is like a Circular Music Hall. Avant-garde architecture, every direction you look is a work of art, rich in local culture, interesting artifacts and the lobby vibrant in the Shandong provincial colours. Buffet breakfast or buffet dinner for in-house guest is the price of a cup of coffee in Sydney, extensive a-la-carte menu available as well. You'll have to be crazy not to eat at the restaurant. I had three breakfasts there and I love the variety of food. I booked two nights in a King room. Before I left, I asked for a tour of the rooms which were all so different and so tasteful. I deliberately asked for an attic room for when I returned to Qingdao for one extra night. The whole ceiling in the bedroom was slanted glass which took a bit to get used to at first but I enjoyed that attic experience. The sheets and pillows were beautiful, the room new, comfortable and very artistic. All the staff were very helpful and sensitive to my needs - especially Yang Luying from reception. It was my first trip to Qingdao and I travelled alone and I was late rushing to the airport for a long international flight back to Sydney via Singapore. The service of Laozhuancun Hotel was first class. I was so glad I found such a beautiful and unique hotel.

Great experience for first timer to China. The hotel staff was very friendly and most spoke a bit of English. The assistant director is from the States and was more than kind and helpful. Made a big difference in my enjoyment of the trip. The breakfast in the attached restaurant was a wonderful buffet style with a wide variety of choices. Would definitely stay here on next trip!

I stayed for 5 nights. The hotel is full of characteristics, which I enjoy every much. Good location. Not far from May 4th Plaza. The price is reasonable with good staff and nice service. I will definitely go back when I visit Qingdao again!!

Overall, a nice change from the typical business type hotel. This hotel is infused with a lot of china culture elements throughout the hotel decor. Room was small but acceptable for a short 2 night stay. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast as the spread was rather good for a local hotel. Also ate a dinner at the same restaurant and enjoyed it too. Prices were reasonable , food was nice and there was also nightly performences of Chinese opera.
