Since 15 January 2024, Hagia Sophia charges a €25 tourist entry fee. The exterior and Sultanahmet Square remain free. Do not plan for free entry -- budget for the €25 fee if you plan to enter.
Grand Bazaar: one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world: 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops. Entry is free. Typically open Monday to Saturday. Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar): near the Galata Bridge in Eminonu, famous for spices, dried fruits, Turkish delight, and loose-leaf teas. Entry is free.

Ortaköy waterfront: free neighbourhood below the Bosphorus Bridge, with a small baroque mosque on the waterfront. Camlica Hill (Asian side): Istanbul's highest point, free entry to the hilltop park, 360-degree panorama of the Bosphorus.
